School board

Xella School boardFor the internal partition walls and on the inside faces of the pre-fabricated external walls of Murton Primary School in County Durham, 12.5mm Fermacell board has been applied. High impact resistance and acoustic properties are achieved thanks to the product's dense gypsum matrix reinforced with cellulose fibres. Boards are fixed using diversion staples that curl back on themselves so they do not penetrate the OSB board.

Underfloor estate

Xella Underfloor estateBrunswick Estates has chosen Fermacell board as the dry screed overlay on underfloor heating systems at its Claremont Hall development in Huddersfield. The Velta Siccus system with Fermacell 2E22 elements was installed. These elements, each comprising two pre-laminated layers of Fermacell 12.5mm board with lapped edges, are laid as a floating floor on top of the Velta system.

Board make an impact at school

Xella Board make an impact at schoolWall board from Fermacell is meeting the demands of a new school in Edinburgh for children with special educational needs. Oaklands School will provide facilities for nursery, primary and secondary age children. The use of Fermacell wall board will satisfy acoustic, fire safety and impact requirements as well as helping reduce the project's over all build costs, the company claims. As its gypsum matrix is reinforced with cellulose fibres it is stronger, has improved impact resistance and, because it has a higher density, is more effective in reducing sound transmission than conventional plasterboard. It is designed to be simple to install and does not need a wet plaster skim to produce a suitable surface for painting.

Wall board right choice for holiday homes

Xella Wall board right choice for holiday homesWall board from Fermacell has been utilised on a new holiday home development for the Choice Hotel Group. A total of around 30,000m of 10mm thick board was used to form the internal walls of 52 timber framed three-bedroom holiday homes at Redbarn Strand near Youghal, County Cork, Ireland. With the product there is no need for wet trades, and in the Rebarn development, the board was fixed directly to the timber frame of the houses with the edges of the board butted together and glued. The glued joint requires no taping and cures within a day. If a fine glass finish is required, a layer of the company's Fine Surface Finish can be applied. The structure consists of a gypsum matrix reinforced with cellulose fibres. It is moisture and fire resistant with sound deadening properties.

Stable situation with building boards

Xella Stable situation with building boardsDaldorch House School in East Aryshire , which was established by The National Autistic Society in 1998, now features Fermacell building board products due to its combination of fire protection and acoustic properties. The project includes the conversion of an existing stable block to create classrooms and the creation of a new build residential block. Some 4000m? of 10mm Fermacell board will be used on the project. It has a unique composite structure, with cellulose fibres reinforcing a solid gypsum matrix. The ground floor ceilings use a double layer of 10mm board fixed to Protektor's TPS 25 ceiling system to provide a quick to install solution. Utilised on the upstair floors are the company's 2E31 dry screed elements which comprise two bonded layers of 10mm board pre-laminated with 10mm wood fibre board, laid on a timber or chipboard floor.

Orkneys extension

Xella Orkneys extensionAs part of a regeneration project, Fermacell board has been specified for walls and ceilings in an extension at the Pier Arts Centre in the Orkneys. Manufactured from recycled materials, 3500m? of Fermacell 12.5mm board was applied. The load bearings and strength meant that heavy artworks could be fixed without support. A single layer of board was mounted on Protektor steel studding fixed to the wall.

An artistic solution

Xella An artistic solutionAssisting in the building of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, 2000m of Fermacell board was specified for the gallery walls due to its load bearing properties and dimensional and chemical stability. The system comprised a single layer of 12.5mm thick square-edged board mounted on Protektor steel studding fixed to the blockwork wall. The product is a hard wearing fibre-reinforced gypsum board made with recycled materials. Along with strength and acoustic insulation properties, it provides fire, impact and moisture resistance. Artwork of 30kg is supported from a single screw, going up to 50kg with a wall plug or toggle type fixing. The board is chemically inert and was specified to provide long term stability in the gallery.
