Securistyle Ltd Window and hardware maker securistyle |

Pilkington Architectural Coastsl clarity |
Passengers at Oban Ferry Terminal are being treated to views of Scotland's coastline while they wait for their ferry to arrive, thanks to the structural glazing system from Pilkington, the Pilkington Planar.
The new terminal building incorporates more than 300m² of the Planar system. The insulating glazing units incorporate 15mm toughened Pilkington Optifloat as the outer pane and 6mm Optitherm as the inner pane with a 16mm air gap.
Jerry Almond, project manager at the subcontractor who installed the system, said: 'Pilkington Planar met the challenge of minimising the amount of steel used in the glass support structure to maximise transparency. The result is a spectacular structure that gives the terminal a lighter, more natural appearance.'

Kawneer UK Ltd Life is just a BREEAM for office tenants |
When the architects were tasked with achieving a good BREEAM rating for an office block that required a striking glazed building façade, they selected Kawneer’s curtain walling and structural glazing.
The seven-storey building in Plymouth uses Kawneer’s dry-jointed curtain walling over most of the elevations, complemented by structural silicone glazing, a range of windows with polyamide thermal breaks which are said to offer exceptional thermal performance, and narrow-style doors.
The £11million steel frame design and build by Kier Western was on the 2,000m² site of council apartments and a community park and is now a prominent feature on a significant gateway into the city centre. The glass lift and staircase which are clad with Kawneer’s structural silicone glazing are landmark features on it.
Michael Board of architects Lacey Hickie Caley said they specified Kawneer: 'Because of the use of its structural silicone glazing with a curtain walling system.
'The curtain walling, silicone glazing, windows and doors, which interact with stone and metal rainscreen panels and through-colour render, were all supplied in metallic grey and installed by SIAC with a brise soleil system.'
The building was also intended to look like a glass block, which was another reason why Kawneer was selected.

Kawneer UK Ltd Enhanced curtain walling system |
Architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer has enhanced its AA100 curtain walling system with the launch of structurally glazed (SSG) and horizontally capped (HC) options.
The SSG option allows a flush appearance to the exterior of stick frame curtain walling to be achieved without the use of visible facecaps. As well as being more visibly pleasing, says Kawneer, it is also more cost effective due to quick installation and reduced time fabricating and installing pressure plates and facecaps.
Constructed with structural silicone sealant and an integrated channel profile around the perimeter of the glazing unit, the system utilises toggle clips positioned on the mullions and transoms, to locate into the channel profile and provide the mechanical retention to secure the pane to the curtain wall. It can accommodate glazing infills of up to 37mm.
The HC system is a flexible option for specifiers offering a variety of distinctive facecaps to highlight horizontal features of a building envelope.
