Schüco Jansen has added a new product to its range of stainless steel windows, doors and fixed glazing systems. The Economy 50 is said to be ideal for use in normal, non-aggressive environments for an aesthetically pleasing yet economical finish. The Economy 50 range is made up of non-thermally broken profiles and remains sturdy whilst maintaining a narrow siteline. Because it is based on the Economy 60 range, designers can combine Economy 50 with an existing Economy 60 setup. Designed with straightforward profile geometry and stability in mind, the new series offers single and double-leaf door options with moving and/or fixed glazed top lights and side lights. Schüco Jansen Economy 50 door construction use a flush-fitted design with shadow joints on all sides.

A school art block in Harrow has been transformed by the Sheerframe System from LB Plastics. The project at Weldon Park School, completed by fenestration contractor Radway, involved the replacement of single glazed windows that meant the art block was susceptible to seasonal temperature variations. The PVC window and curtain walling for the building offers thermal efficiency, as the double glazed units are created using the Sheerframe 7000 system which is said to deliver a continuous indoor temperature. The Sheerframe grid system also features its own drainage, and thermal break elements.

Barratts, Mercia have recently completed a development in Warstock, Birmingham using products supplied by Stormking. Bay windows were initially designed by Barratts and adapted for production by Stormking to retain the detail of the cornicing. The closed mould resin transfer manufacturing technology produces intricate shapes which would otherwise be impossible. Door canopies and surrounds were also used throughout the development to provide interesting entrances with one piece dormas, supplied ready for glazing.

LB Plastics have provided Sheerframe PVC windows for six executive family homes at Swinley Gate in St Albans. The glazing suppler delivered a combination of styles. This involved fabricating and installing Sheerframe vertically sliding sashes for many of the front elevations with traditional casements for the sides and rear of the properties.

A concealed, controlled door closer from Samuel Heath & Sons has been installed at the new Hilton Manchester Deansgate. Over 400 of the Perko Powermatic door closers have been specified for the hotel as it meets all the fire requirements whilst remaining invisible when the door is closed. Leaderflush of Nottingham supplied the doors pre-morticed ready to accept the closers.

The restoration of a 17th century Grade II listed manor house has included bespoke single glazed sash windows from Mumford and Wood's Conservation Historic Box Sash range. Recent investment in specialist tooling enabled the window manufacturer to provide developers with the single glazed windows for the historically sensitive Lawton Hall in Cheshire, as an alternative from the double glazed factory-finished product that the Conservation range usually offers. Over 500 period windows and doors were produced over a 14 month delivery schedule for the project, which includes the conversion of Lawton Hall into luxury apartments, and also the supply of double glazed windows from the Conservation range for new build homes around the estate.

A new aluminium window system from Schüco has been updated with the addition of a range of certified smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems (SHEVS). These include a comprehensive choice of inward and outward opening windows for vertical façades and skylights. SHEVS technology is designed to automatically evacuate smoke and heat from a building in order to allow its occupants more time to escape in the event of fire. When combined with temperature or CO² sensors or other building management systems, the same aluminium window systems may be used for regular natural ventilation or internal climate control. The opening types comprise inward opening bottom hung, inward opening side hung, outward opening top hung, outward opening side hung and outward opening roof vent. Working closely with automation specialist SE Controls, Schüco ensures that all installations achieve CE marking in accordance with European standards.

The timber variant friction hinge is said to be easy to fit and enhances the weather sealing of timber windows. Simple to adjust, and available with built in restrictors, the product can be fitted with ease and doesn't weaken under weather conditions.

The launch of the Vision 3000 range of windows from Glas Facades is said to make the compromise between natural light and thermal performance in a building a problem of the past. The range combines solid timber core with an aluminium outer profile, in a natural or painted finish. Airtightness is crucial to the windows' design, achieving Window Energy Ratings of A to C.
