Fernox have launched a new descaler and sludge remover for domestic central heating systems, which it claims will help reduce fuel wastage and increase efficiency. Combined of the DS-40 descaler and the Superconcentrate system cleaner, the DS-40 System Cleaner dissolves oxide sludge and limescale and is universally compatible. One container is sufficient to de-scale up to ten radiators.

Two new acoustic systems are to be launched at Housebuilding 07 by Icopal's Monarfloor Acoustic Systems. The Bridgestop system, pictured, has candidate Robust Detail status, while Tranquilt is said to fill the gap left by the suspension of E-FC-3, the Robust Detail for pre-cast concrete floating screed separating floors. Bridgestop prevents both acoustic bridging commonly caused by mortar build up between separating walls, and sound transmission between wall leaf to wall leaf via the slab. By isolating both leafs of the party cavity wall from mortar collecting at the base, Bridgestop allows the use of a continual raft foundation between attached buildings. The system also ensures the robustness of gas membranes where used on contaminated brownfield sites. The second system, Tranquilt, is a one part acoustic system for new-build and refurbished floors that Monarfloor claims will slash installation times. For easier storage and transportation it is 10mm thick and supplied in a 1.5m by 20m roll. It can be laid like a carpet, and once on the ground it is said to maintain stiffness preventing collapse under the weight of the overlaid screed.

Pupils at a Preston primary school may have been disappointed that solvent-free Kemperol cold liquid waterproofing was used to repair their leaking roof, for it meant that classes went ahead without disruption and the expected 'day-off', had a traditional solution been used never materialised. Supplied by Kemper System, BBA-certified Kemperol 2K-PUR is believed to be the UK's only solvent free cold liquid waterproofing. It is applied wet-on-wet, which means projects are completed more quickly and, because there are no laminations it is has an expected working life of 25 years.

Speed and simplicity are said to be central to Tremco illbruck's latest offering for the contract flooring industry, Treadfast Kwiklay is a reinforced PVC underlay that provides a moisture resistant barrier across a variety of substrates. It is supplied in 25 metre rolls of 1.45 metre width which are loose laid across the floor. The material is cut into the wall all around the perimeter and the joints butted together before being sealed with waterproof tape. Critical to its performance is the presence of resin peduncles on the underside which raises the fibreglass membrane of the sub floor.

Bespoke lifts from Alimak Hek could elevate the spirit by eliminating the problem of vertical access on-site. In fact, Alimak have issued a challenge: defy an AH lift range to provide access the solution you need, however demanding the environment. The challenge is said to havealready been met at Padstow Lifeboat Station, where an inclined lift was installed, and at the Beryl Alpha platform, which required a lift that offered protection from explosion. The rack and pinion lifts operate on the outside of a structure, negating the need for an enclosed shaft, machine room or wire system. This enhances the operation of the lift by avoiding dust collection. The lifts are capable of moving weights of up to 24 tonnes distances of 300m, and the company maintains that they can withstand the harshest environments to reach otherwise inaccessible structures.

French manufacturer Wirquin has introduced two shower wastes to the UK market. The Tourbillon 50 and the Tourbillon 50 with dome have a 50mm diameter outlet with a water seal of 50mm. The main body of the waste outlet, the flat grid and dome are made in ABS, the flat grid and dome are chrome plated. In the dome version, the dome is simply pushed down on the white grid and is secured by locking guide protrusions on the underside. By simply withdrawing the flat grid or dome/grid from the body of the outlet, the waste basket is then removed and cleaned in warm water. The basket is the replaced using the guide location rails provided in the trap and the grid simply pushed home into the trap. The height of the waste is just 82mm deep, which is said to make it one of the most compact wastes on the market with a 50mm seal, complying with UK Building Regulations. The outlet is supplied with a compression fitting.

Romford's, new Queen Elizabeth Hospital has installed over 1,000 Glutz locks, latches and handles. Glutz supplied a combination of heavy duty mortice locks and latches which were tested in combination to over 1.5 million cycles, a process that took three months and claimed to be more cycles than any other manufacturer.
