A wireless (RF) version of the Horstmann Controls ThermoPlus programmable room thermostat has been added to the range, with installers now able to select from four different easy-fit models, depending on the application and user environment.
The ThermoPlus AS2 RF is battery powered and makes use of advanced Z-Wave mesh wireless control language. This reduces installation times.
The DRU 'Apollo' from Drugasar, a frameless, balanced flue gas fire, combined with the customised 'Sienna' fire surround came top in the categories for 'Gas Fireplace Suite of the Year' and 'Fireplace Suite of the Year'.
The Apollo is one of the larger fires in the DRU collection. It has a 9kW heat output and can be installed as a 'hole-in-the-wall' fire or combined with the stone surround.
Apollo customers have the choice of fire beds in logs or 'Carrara' stones, whilst the interior of the fire can be finished in black metal or 'Chamotte' brick.
The Altherma Heat Pump system from Daikin consists of a 6kW condenser unit 'hydro-box' heating/cooling package and a 150 litre un-vented hot water cylinder, supplying under floor heating to the kitchen/living area, master and second bedrooms and bathroom/hallway. The hydro-box is small enough to be installed in a cupboard, along with the cylinder and under floor heating manifolds.
Awarded a contract for the supply of 689 chilled beams for a city central redevelopment in Adelaide, Fläkt Woods has selected its range of Flexicool beams.
The products are double width QPSA passive beams (580mm wide) and said to be flexible and easily adaptable to meet most requirements. They cool a room by means of convection.
Grass-covered smoke ventilators have been designed for the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre, Ireland.
The Bilco SS-50C plate construction hatches had to be modified to include 80mm turf trays for the eco-friendly building, as well as 24V DC motors and compression spring mechanisms which ensure that the motors are not subjected to heavy compression loads from vehicles and visitors.
The Caspian range of fan convectors from Smith's Environmental Products is available in three models: 60, 90 and 120. With outputs from 3kW to 12kW and capable of running from an existing central heating system, the Caspian is durable and has been designed for robust environments, such as church halls, hotels, leisure centres and showrooms. Offering tamperproof controls, access panel security locks and a pencil proof grille, the product is said to perform well in conditions where the possibility of interference is high, such as schools and colleges.
There is also the facility to wire in a remote thermostat, increasing flexibility.
In line with the Government's recent energy efficiency initiatives, the SuperEco Sorrento electric fire from Robinson Willey comes complete with co-ordinating fire surround. Low energy efficient bulbs provide up to 8,000 hours lamp life and offer reduced running costs.
The model also has an integral thermostat and a top-positioned heat control enabling the user to switch between 1kW and 2kW heat settings.
Manchester-based architectural practice Warburton Associates specified two of Finnforest's engineered timber products to help deliver the award winning Acorn's Horticultural Centre in Edenbridge, Kent.
The building has been built for charity CARE. 'Throughout the design we were committed to creating a modern inclusive environment, incorporating sustainable energy technology and renewable materials,' said architectural director Richard Ward.
Finnforest's cladding was specified in the construction of the building, along with two 9m unguyed 6Kw wind turbines and other sustainable energy products.
The company's Kerto is a high performance laminated veneer lumber that retains the appearance of natural wood. It is produced by continuously gluing 3mm thick, rotary peeled spruce veneers together to form a continuous billet.
Claimed to be state-of-the-art architectural stone cladding, designed and manufactured off-site by Trent Concrete is taking pride of place at the impressive new Barton Square development Manchester's £70 million Trafford Centre
The bespoke pre-cast concrete cladding is said to be bringing the cluster of buildings at Barton Square to life - giving them a classical appearance and 'delivering innate strength and durability.'
The development comprises four 'L' shaped blocks that form a central square, mall and colonnade. Trent's reconstructed stone cladding is tailor-made to the architects and client's specifications, as part of a £6.4 million contract.
Working to architectural drawings, the design concept was turned into reality and the result is a series commanding buff coloured pilasters up to eight metres high, with accompanying cornice units, band course and plinth. Each unit, some weighing up to 24 tonnes, is handcrafted at Trent's Nottingham-based plant. They are cast in a buff reconstructured stone mix, with acid etched finish.
Shop fronts inside the Barton Square mall will feature double part, brick faced pilaster/cornice units and support beams, while the colonnade will be formed out of seven metre high, tapered columns
