For an effective heating system during a refurbishment at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon, a continuous Nor-Ray-Vac radiant tube heating from AmbiRad was chosen.
The system emits low-intensity heat with even distribution, which is said to be suitable for creating comfort conditions for visitors and staff but without affecting the valuable aircraft on display.
The 38kW LR series linear burners with one discharge fan were installed. The heaters are controlled in two separate zones, allowing the Museum to shut down heating in one section when it is necessary to do so. As a result, unnecessary use of fuel is eliminated and running costs are kept to a minimum.
The choice of the Nor-Ray-Vac heating system was based on previous experience. Mike Gell, Building and Services Manager at the museum said: 'We have used this type of radiant heating for a number of years and have found it to be a cost-effective solution.'
Aeropac ventilation systems from Siegenia-Aubi have been a popular choice amongst specifiers for housing alongside motorways where noise control and fresh air are crucial.
Philippe Doneux of Acoustica, a Sydney-based firm with 20 years' experience in fitting ventilation systems, said: 'The challenge was to stop traffic noise and pollutants getting into apartments through open windows, whilst at the same time letting fresh air in. With its filtration capabilities, Siegenia-Aubi's Aeropac was the ideal solution.'
Pollutants such as kerosene and pollen are said to be eliminated by the system
Polypipe's Polyplumb underfloor heating system can be laid with ease as it allows for suspended and floating floors. A damp-proof membrane is laid with insulation board on top to minimise heat wastage. On top of that are placed lightweight, preformed plastic floorpanels that can be cut or sawn to shape before the flexible polypropylene pipe is walked into the appropriate grooves from a coil.
Droitwich-based combustion specialist Nu-way is launching a biomass boiler for the domestic market.
The EcoFlex wood pellet boiler is part of a new range of renewable heating products devloped by the company, including ground source and air/water heat pump models, wood pellet fired commerical biomass boilers, along with control systems and storage devices to integrate the products into new and existing heating configurations.
Other key features include microprocessor control with interior and exterior censors to provide year round heating. It has separate connections for heating and DHW circuits with fully automatic ignition and operation.
For the end user, the connection to the pellet supply is simple and neat and EcoFlex can be supplied with a stand alone pellet hopper and automatic feed system. if required.
West Pennine Housing Association has recntly completed the development of even sustainable houses in Rochdale that have used Strada radiators from Jaga Heating.
Designed to be kind on the environment and economical in the use of energy and water, the new three-storey dwellings are said to be intended to provide a housing solution for large, multi-generation families.
Part of Jaga's Energy Savers range, the Strada benefits from intelligent Low H?O technology based on the concepts of low mass and low water.
The radiators weigh only 10 per cent of a traditional steel panel radiator and have just one tenth the water content.
The low H?O convection element inside Strada's radiators produces better distribution and circulation of warm air so that the heat reaches even the furthest corners of a room to prevent the growth of mould in cold areas and ensure the occupant's comfort.
Safety is another key feature of the Strada which is particularly important for elderly residents or families with small children. The Strada has a surface temperature that remains safe to touch at all times.
Converting wasted heat to provide low cost hot water, the new Activair air source heat pump from Trianco Heating Products is claimed to have minimal negative impact on the environment. The company says it is ideal for installation where concerns over climate change are taken seriously.
It is available in 3kW, 5kW, 7kW and 12kW versions. The unit is quickly and easily installed in half a day and can be five times as efficient as a gas or oil boiler.
When used in the home, it is capable of supplying all of a family's hot water needs.
Enhancements to a range of high efficiency boilers from Halstead Boilers have been implemented. Modifications to the Eden CBX, SBX and VBX models include the application of bleed valve, the replacement of location magnets to speed-up the alignment of the boiler and the use of a telescopic flue offering a quick anti-plume flue
solution for the installer.
The HRS Hevac SolarChoice package features the HRS SolarPlate flat plate solar thermal collector. This consists of a copper pipe structure fitted to a flat absorber plate, which has been treated with a TiNOX titanium layer. This makes the absorber plate very efficient and able to work even when the sky is cloudy. Up to 90% of visible sunlight enters through the glass cover of the collector.
