Ward Insulated Panels has promoted Helen Taylor to its External Sales Team as Area Sales Manager for North East England. Helen joined Ward in September 2004 working for the Internal Sales Team covering the south of the UK from its offices in Sherburn, North Yorkshire. Electrical entrepreneur Peter Moule, of Chocbox fame is celebrating an exclusive distribution contract with GET, after securing investment from Dragon's Den. The deal was formalised before the show was aired. Peter, who started out as an electrician at St Pauls Cathedral, took his electrical connections safety housing into the Den last year. He impressed 'Dragons' James Caan and Duncan Bannatyne enough to secure significant investment in his business.

According to an online poll, BAL is the first choice of professional tilers. During the poll, which was for TilersForums.co.uk, respondents were asked: 'what brand of adhesive do you trust the most?' BAL was named by 77 of the 153 respondents. A total of 50.3 per cent of all member tilers were surveyed.

British Precast has launched a challenging Sustainability Charter. Member companies have been invited to sign a series of commitments to improve their sustainability performance and profile. At the launch event the initiative was welcomed by Paul King of the UK Green Building Council. He said: "The charter would be used as an example by the council." British Precast Chief Executive, Martin Clarke, said: "The charter was the next planned step in our sector sustainability strategy, 'More or Less.' He added: "We encourage all our members to sign up but at the same time advise that it is a serious decision needing full commitment ."

Engineers were able to keep the main London to Bristol railway line operational during major repair work thanks to a new rock-fall catch fence and drapery system from Maccaferri. Building Products magazine was told that an on-going maintenance and structural stability plan by contractors, Skyline Rope Access, identified an 8m long tension-crack behind a large sandstone block 2/3rd of the way up the 23m deep cutting.

Terrapin received its formal accreditation at the Offsite Construction Awards dinner at the National Motorcycle Museum. The scheme was set up by Buildoffsite, the body campaigning for more uptake of offsite building solution, in association with Lloyds Register EMEA.

AEI Cables is to provide cabling for the fire alarm system of Sunderland's Civic Centre. Over 7,500 metres of 1.5v two-core enhanced cabling will be installed at the Civic Centre. The 1.5 two-core enhanced cable is appropriate where risk assessments have been completed and there is an agreement that a softskin cable with a lower survival capability than a mineral insulated product can be installed. The Olympic Delivery Authority has unveiled the design for the Olympic Stadium, the flagship venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The ODA also plan to start the construction ahead of schedule. The 80,000 seat stadium will be the centre-piece for the 2012 Games, hosting the Opening and Closing ceremonies and the athletics events, converting down to a 25,000 seat permanent stadium after the Games. The main features of the stadium will be the sunken bowl design, catering pods and the cable supported roof.
