Richard Burbidge Ltd Mondernised feature staircase

Richard Burbidge is so impressed with its own Fusion Commercial stair balustrade range that the company has specified the system to modernise and revamp a feature staircase within the main reception of its head office. For a fresh, modern look for this communal area, the existing traditionally-styled timber balustrade has been replaced with the Fusion system which combines Oak rails and newels with brushed nickel balusters and connectors. David Richards, of Richard Burbidge, said: 'Importantly, the system satisfies the latest safety requirements.'

AFI Aerial Platforms Market uplift

The Work at Height Regulations are driving the use of small powered access machines. This is confirmed by AFI-Uplift which says it has seen a rapid increase in demand from companies wanting to hire this type of equipment. The company has supplied 12 Pop-Up machines and three Skyjack scissors lifts to a company installing fire prevention and alarm systems at the Bankside 2/3 development.

Alimak Hek Ltd Lift eye looks to save time

edish lift manufacturer Alimak Hek has added two elevators to its product portfolio. The elevators are said to consume less energy and reduce the cost of ownership compared to the first generation of Alimak hoists. The Alimak Scando range has an intelligent control unit, while the Scando 650 offers single or twin cars that carry payloads of 1500 to 3200kg and have a maximum lifting height of 400m, extendable on request. It allows greater use of hoist power, whilst achieving a 40% reduction in energy consumption. The final element is the A3, an on-site 'eye' and remote monitoring system that collects data such as number of starts and stops.

Jeld Wen UK Flight of fancy

Recognising the increased demand for timber stairs for apartment buildings, Jeld Wen has invested in new equipment for the manufacture of common flights. The company's dedicated stairs factory in Melton Mowbray has recently been kitted out with a quarter of a million pound's worth of bespoke equipment to produce the flights, all of which have been accredited to meet British Standards. John Seragusa, general manager said: 'We are really excited. We now have the dedicated facilities and additional capacity to produce over 50 flights a week, and our dedicated teams can ensure delivery within 3-4 weeks. Our tailored service means we can respond to both small or large orders within short time frames.'

Stannah Lift Services has been awarded the OHSAS 18001 certification by the awarding body, Bureau Veritas Certification (BVC). A spokesman for Stannah said: 'Achieving the health and safety standard recognises Stannah's continual dedication to the welfare of its employees and customers, and providing a safer working environment. A large proportion of the company's employees are field engineers servicing and maintaining lifts nationwide. The achievement acknowledges Stannah's focus on providing the same level of health and safety for those out in the field as they do for those working in its offices

Jeld Wen UK Stair repair is a good as new

The problem of minor scratches, or damage to stair handrails, riser or spindles, all of which can occur when installing on site, could be solved with the launch of the new Stairs Repair Kit from Jeld-Wen. The 'all in one' kit contains a touch-up pen, heated melting knife and a block of coloured hardwax fill material plus a levelling plate to ensure a smooth 'good as new' finish for staircases. Tony Pell, Product Manager at Jeld-Wen, said: 'We introduced the repair kit to help developers achieve a perfect finish on handover to buyers. The kit is really simple to use, and compatible with both unfinished and finished products within our range.' The company offers a choice of factory finished options that are said to enhance performance and prolong the lifespan of the staircase. Stairs are also available pre-assembled as part of Modern Methods in Construction.

Easilift Loading Systems Ltd Easlift loads up to go green

An unloading system from Easilift Loading Systems recently has been chosen by Tesco for its flagship environmental store in Wick, Scotland. The system comprises two lifting platforms, one of which is specifically designed to accommodate fixed bed, high capacity double deck trailers, loading pods, insulated sectional overhead doors. Phil Dinning, MD of Easilift Loading Systems Ltd, said: 'We are delighted to have been chosen by Tesco to be a major partner in its flagship green store in Scotland'.

Evac+Chair International Ltd University opts for saftey chair

Emergency evacuation chair company Evac+Chair has provided the University of Wales in Newport with an evacuation solution for the mobility impaired. The chairs, which carry out a controlled descent down the stairs at an angle of 40 degrees, were installed at various points across the university's two campuses. Evac+Chairs can carry a payload of up to 150kg but are said to be lightweight and, with the correct training, easy to operate. The company also offers rental packages on chairs, for an affordable alternative. Wayne Jones, the university's Health and Safety officer, said: 'Evac+Chair gives us peace of mind. We now know that everyone can be safely evacuated in an emergency.

Kee Klamp Ltd A new tubular handrail system from kee klamp

Reading-based Kee Klamp has helped Islington Council comply with the Disability Discrimination Act with a new tubular handrail system at Whittington Park, created using components from its 500 series. The new handrailing has been fitted alongside an access ramp at the Park's recently built football pitch. Over 65m of handrailing has been fitted, using a size 7 tube which is powder coated to meet the 'not cold to the touch' requirements of the DDA.
