The gates to the elephant enclosures at Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent are now operated remotely following the installation of automatic sliding gate operators and a customised access control device.
The new system from FAAC was specified by wild animal park owner, the Aspinall Foundation, after gates were used at nearby Port Lympne elephant enclosure the previous year. According to the company the system was installed by Sevenoaks based Securigate. 844 sliding gate operators have been fitted to all twelve gates in the elephant enclosure and a custom-designed wire-free portable remote control programmable transmitter based on FAAC's 868 radio controlled unit enables each gate to be opened remotely at the touch of a button. The 844 operator was chosen as it features a non-reversing worm-screw gear motor, ensuring that the elephants cannot push the gate back once the motor has stopped. 844 operators can be
specified for both rack and chain applications.
HandKey hand geometry readers produced by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies have been installed throughout the Maghaberry Prison in Northern Ireland.
The company says that, before installation, the prison had to rely on guards with keys at every access point to monitor pedestrian traffic. The HandKey biometric technology has provided many benefits including being cost effective and allowing guards to operate more flexibility. The readers are understood to be connected to the prisons computer system allowing staff to monitor each access point and its activity. The system is also used in the prison education department and the prisoner records storage.

Over 1,000 sheets of High Pressure Laminate (HPL) were supplied for the interiors of the Emirates Stadium.
This included Formica Compact for the players' changing rooms and general admission toilet facilities. Formica Compact is said to be suited to high impact and high moisture environments. The Spectrum Red Formica Compact echoes Arsenal's distinctive team colour. Many of the 'back of house' reception desks and print journalists and photographers workstations, along with press desks in the seating bowl, were also fabricated using HPL from Formica bonded to an MDF substrate.
