The manufacturers claim Thinsulex RafterFit is ideal for loft conversion and refurbishment where the original roof remains and the installer is working with 100mm rafters and 50mm air gap. The ability to supply a vital switchboard in record time helped secure Eaton the order for a new PLC-controlled switchboard for North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (Cheshire & Merseyside Area) as part of a major refurbishment of its electrical power supply. In a second order, Eaton supplied an emergency generator and an uninterrupted power supply from its Powerware business. The new switchboard comprises sections for essential and non-essential services. In the event of a power supply failure, a bus coupler opens automatically to isolate the non-essential loads. The majority of essential services are equipped with uninterrupted power supplies to ensure continuous power while the 150k diesel emergency generator powers up.

Roofing membrane maker FDT is helping to reshape the urban landscape of Istanbul. A vast shopping and leisure complex in the Turkish city is its first to feature a green roof. FDT's 'green' roofing membrane Rhepanol hg was chosen for the project, with 35,000m2 of flat and sloping roofs planted and another 20,00m2 gravelled to create a public square and walkways.

The roofing material for a new Recycling Centre at the recently opened Gulliver's Eco Park in Milton Keynes, has been supplied by Onduline. The developers are said to have chosen the roofing cover because of its low environmental impact. It is made from organic fibres. Another factor taken into account was Onduline's lightweight and flexibility. The product carries a 15 year guarantee. Sheets are available in four colours and suitable for a low pitched roof. The park is the first of its kind where children can learn about the environment.
