Richard Burbidge is so impressed with its own Fusion Commercial stair balustrade range that the company has specified the system to modernise and revamp a feature staircase within the main reception of its head office.
For a fresh, modern look for this communal area, the existing traditionally-styled timber balustrade has been replaced with the Fusion system which combines Oak rails and newels with brushed nickel balusters and connectors.
David Richards, of Richard Burbidge, said: 'Importantly, the system satisfies the latest safety requirements.'
Georgian-style timber sash windows, doorsets and entrance doors by Mumford & Wood have been used in the renovation of a London terraced town house. This is said to be a fine example of how a modern doubled glazed timber window, with faithfully reproduced historical detail, can be successfully embraced into a sensitive period renovation where uniformity and consistency of design is imperative.
Mumford & Wood's modern, Kitemarked doubled glazed sash windows offer a high thermal performance with energy ratings ranging from C to A depending on size, while entrance doors meet Enhanced Security ratings of PAS24.
The Stour Centre in Ashford, which first opened its doors in 1975, has recently completed a major two-year refurbishment programme utilising over 1600mē of Rockfon's Sonar 'E' (Tegular) ceiling system.
Trevor Culmer, of Integrated Interior Systems, said: 'There were a number of design and performance issues in the early stages of this contract which were all met using Rockfon Sonar tiles and RockLink grids. The lighting centres were not modular with the ceiling layout, this required the ceiling tiles and grid to be cut down to suit using specialist tools supplied by Rockfon. Purpose-made trims were also required at junctions between the ceilings and the curved perimeter bulkheads.'

The problem of minor scratches, or damage to stair handrails, riser or spindles, all of which can occur when installing on site, could be solved with the launch of the new Stairs Repair Kit from Jeld-Wen.
The 'all in one' kit contains a touch-up pen, heated melting knife and a block of coloured hardwax fill material plus a levelling plate to ensure a smooth 'good as new' finish for staircases.
Tony Pell, Product Manager at Jeld-Wen, said: 'We introduced the repair kit to help developers achieve a perfect finish on handover to buyers. The kit is really simple to use, and compatible with both unfinished and finished products within our range.'
The company offers a choice of factory finished options that are said to enhance performance and prolong the lifespan of the staircase. Stairs are also available pre-assembled as part of Modern Methods in Construction.
Concerned that the subfloor in an office refurbishment project in Nuneaton might contain excessive moisture, the moisture measurement specialist F Ball & Co was called in.
Using its new Protimeter Aquant, the Leek, Staffordshire-based company quickly established further examination was required. The hand-held meter was simply bought into contact with the floor and its dual displays indicated that a high level of potential moisture was present in the floor.
F Ball's latest digital hygrometer was then used to precisely measure the relatively humidity of the subfloor. Supplied pre-calibrated and ready for use, the hygrometer was simply taped to the floor, left to reach equilibrium, and then switched on to give an instant, accurate reading.
With a RH reading in excess of 92%, a two-coat remedial treatment was recommended and subsequently carried out.
