Joist seal combats air leaks - Manthorpe Building Products Ltd

Joist seal combats air leaksJoist Seal from Manthorpe Building Products has been designed in conjunction with industry experts to produce what the company says is the ultimate method of combating air leakage around timber joists and ‘l’ beams. Suitable for both exterior and party walls, Joist Seal is said to be easy and fast and to install. The joist seal simply fits over the joist end before being built into the blockwork in the traditional way, forming an airtight box. During the drying-out period, the joist shrinks without the seal being affected. On site it offers substantial time savings and is a safe method of construction. Endorsed by joist manufacturers, approved by Local Authorities’ Board of Agrement, Joist Seal is claimed to demonstrate exceptional performance in independent tests. The suppliers describe the products as an ingenious, inexpensive solution to air leakage and complies with the revised Building Regulations Approved Document Part L eliminating air leakage around timber joists.

Liquid system is cold applied - Icopal Ltd

Liquid system is cold appliedBuilding membranes manufacturer Icopal says it has taken ar major step forward with the launch of a high-performance, cold-applied liquid roofing system. The Parapro waterproofing system is claimed to be the next generation of cold-applied liquid roofing technology, incorporating a polyester reinforcing fleece between two layers of liquid polyurethane-based coating. This can be applied 'wet on wet', eliminating the need for drying time between coats and thus significantly reducing time on site. Parapro offers rapid, seamless waterproofing for roofs, balconies and terraces without the application of heat. It comprises a base coat of polyurethane liquid onto which is immediately applied the reinforcing mat. The 'wet on wet' process is then completed with the top coat of Parapro liquid. Because it is applied cold using rollers, brushes or squeegees, use of the system may help to reduce insurance costs. Demarcated walkways in a variety of colours and with anti-skid granules can also be created.

Attractive clay plain roof tiles - Imerys Roof Tiles Ltd

Attractive clay plain roof tilesSuppliers of clay roof tiles, Imerys Roof Tiles have launched the first of a new generation of clay plain tiles. Said to be the only clay plain roof tile of its kind, the 20cm x 30cm format offers the versatility, design flexibility and the traditional appearance of smaller tiles, enabling developers to create natural roofscapes more cost effectively. With a coverage of just 43.5 tiles per square metre, this larger economical format requires fewer tiles and battens, and so offers speed and ease of installation, with significant material and labour savings to the building, particularly on larger roofs. Their fine lines, texture and gently shouldered cross camber design reflect the aesthetics of a traditional double camber, whilst the flat underside helps prevent any tile movement or 'chatter' in high winds. The anti-capillary channels also enhance the overall performance and weather tightness of a traditional pitched roof. The 20 x 30 is available in a range of attractive mellow colours, including the popular 'Burnt Red', 'Quercy', 'Alezane' (a charismatic mellow textured colour with the faintest hint of yellow) and Slate, plus a number of regional variations and a full range of colour-matched accessories. All Imerys clay tiles meet the requirements of BS EN 1304 (1997).

Rigidal's Ziplok standing seam profile - Rigidal Systems

Rigidal's Ziplok standing seam profileRigidal’s Ziplok standing seam profile is increasingly being used on buildings within the education sector, where its combination of aesthetics, cost-effectiveness, ease of construction, lifespan and environmental considerations are making it a natural choice for architects and contractors alike. An example is Charter Primary School in Coventry, where 1500m2 of Rigidal’s Ziplok, in mill finish stucco embossed aluminium, have been used to provide a dramatic visual statement on this city regeneration project. The classrooms are all built around a central circular atrium/assembly hall, and from above the slanting roofs give the appearance of a giant propeller. The slope of the roofs, as well as providing a striking appearance, allows them to drain away from the frontage to integral gutters at the back of each roof section. Though Ziplok can be curved, wave-formed or tapered, the roof at Charter Primary School uses only straight sheets yet still provides a stunning visual appearance, highlighting the versatility of the product. In addition to its availability in aluminium, Ziplok can be supplied in steel, stainless steel, zinc or copper and can also be supplied in a variety of finishes to ensure total design flexibility.
