Eurocell Profiles has won the prestigious Derbyshire Business Awards. The Alfreton-based company was announced the winner from a shortlist of four finalists at a gala dinner at Chatsworth House. Eurocell impressed the judges with the way it managed to expand its business in an increasingly competitive market. Despite a general downturn in the market of 5.4 percent, Eurocell managed to increase its turnover by 10 per cent for 2005 - 2006. The company said last years performance was founded on 12 years of consistent growth.

Building envelope and solar energy products specialist, Schüco International, has installed aluminium curtain walling and window systems for a newly constituted primary school in South Wales. The systems were installed in a new building purpose-designed by Caerphilly Borough Council Architects Department.

GAP has invested over £125,000 in streamlining its door panel factory. The company has bought a purpose-built Cannon Shelley vacuum forming line as well as cooling and water pumps. The vacuum former moulds door panel skins and will increase the efficiency and capacity by up to 33%.

ASSA 330 series is a cam action door closer with an adjustable strength of power ratings 1 to 4. Stormking have launched a range of reproduction stone cills to add to its portfolio of products for modern methods of construction. Made from GRP using Stormking's own closed mould resin transfer technology, the cills are lightweight yet extremely robust and durable. The company says the new reproduction stone cills are exceptionally quick and easy to fix and are available in Portland, Bath and York finishes. They are designed to be face fixed, using all weather adhesive, after brick render work has been completed. The new cills are also said to be suitable for all weather site working and for all types of construction. Stormking's reproductions stone cills are made to customer size specifications from a range of standard sizes and Stormking also offer a full take off service if required. Following extensive site trials, the new cills have been used highly successfully by Kings Oak Homes for a mixed dwellings development in Northampton.

London's Buckle Street, E1, is the location of a new five story luxury apartment block designed by Osel Architecture for client MiNC City Reach. The site was hand picked for being ideal for City professionals and those wanting to be close to central London. Osel's brief was to provide bright, airy modern accommodation. The use of high-spec acoustic glazing was also used to emphasise the property's sound insulation and desirability with the architect maximising the light into each apartment. As part of the project, fabricators, BSF supplied and installed Metal Technology's high performance System 5-20 story height composite windows, including some side-hung opening lights, as the main glazing element, with blue/grey aluminium panels to the lower panes.

Opening up a vista of breathtaking views was the main priority for an award winning project that features Sapa Building Systems' Dualframe casement windows. The project, 'Uplands,' near Newmarket in Suffolk, won the 'Home Award' category in the last RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Architectural Awards for architects Freeland Rees Roberts. Set in a picturesque backdrop of oak trees and apple orchards, the private house is described as contemporary in design but built to blend in with its surroundings using traditional materials. Sapa say the clients are timber enthusiasts and, accordingly, the use of oak throughout the building was key to the projects aesthetics.

REHAU has produced a sustainability brochure designed to dispel the myths surrounding the manufacture, use and recycling of PVC in construction. It sets out independent research finding from bodies as diverse as the BRE (Building Research Establishment), WRAP (Waste Research Action Programme) and various British government and EU studies to support the use of PVC as a safe, reliable, cost-effective, sustainable and recyclable material. The company describes the brochure as an attempt to objectively counter the negative perceptions surrounding the use of PVC-U windows in the commercial and specification sector. The brochure encourages specifiers to consider the 'Three Pillars of Sustainability' - social, economic and environmental - as laid out in the 1987 Brundtland Report 'Our Common Future.'
