The elegant new CONTUR design concept from DORMA with its inset end caps, allied with clearly defined cubic lines, brings a uniformity of styling to door closers and enables a totally coordinated finish to be brought to any interior design project.
CONTUR does not replace the existing comprehensive range of DORMA finishes, but is a clever option for anyone requiring visually matched products for a single build identity. The new design concept applies to the unique range of DORMA cam action closers – the TS 91 / 92 / 93 and TS 97 – along with the ES200 Automatic sliding door and ED200 Automatic swing door operators.
Already a particular favourite with the market, the elegant TS 93 with its linear drive mechanism and heart shaped cam even offers improved performance as the new refined TS 93 CONTUR. Previously the unit satisfied the opening force requirements of Approved Document M and BS8300 on doors 875mm or wider – but the high efficiency of the TS 93 CONTUR now meets the requirements on doors of 767mm or above.
This means that the resistance encountered when opening the door fades almost instantly, making it light and easy to use for children, the elderly and people with disabilities. As with the previous version, the new TS 93 CONTUR also offers adjustable power, a ‘thinking back check’ and adjustable delayed action – all essential criteria when looking to comply with ADM and BS8300.
Housebuilders and developers in search of fresh ideas for domestic balconies can now specify a range of outdoor colour balustrades from Richard Burbidge.
Available off the shelf, Fusion Commercial outdoor balustrade is said to offer distinctive styling and flexibility of design, without bespoke costs and lead times.
Based on a fusion of timber rails and metal newels, the range is available with a choice of three infill options: hardwood timber balusters, hardwood slatted panels or glass panels.
Period windows and doors from Mumford & Wood have been used in the sympathetic restoration of an 1810 Tudor-style hall in rural Kent.
Materials have been chosen with great care to replicate features of the original building and to satisfy planning requirements.
Almost every opening was different in size but the company's bespoke manufacturing processes are said to be able to easily cope easily with such problems even with low volume orders. Factory finishing with water-base paints and stains help to extend life.
Extending its range of door hardware ASSA ABLOY has introduced the 330 series door closer to the range suitable for all internal doors.
The series is a cam action door closer with an adjustable strength of power ratings 1 to 4. Meeting the performance requirements of BS EN 1154, BS 8300 and Building Regulations Approved Document Part M guidelines for opening and closing force.
ASSA 330 is compatible with the company's door solutions range of electromechanical hold-open systems and supplied with DC194 sliding arm as standard.
Window and hardware maker Securistyle, whose products are said to be widely used in the social housing sector, has developed an anti-manipulation door lock cylinder, which prevents 'bumping' - the latest form of burglary.
Bumping has become a growing threat because the technique can be quickly learned, it does not require any special tools, and a large number of standard pin tumbler locks are at risk of being opened making home's vulnerable to attack.
Mumford & Wood specialist manufacturer of premium timber windows and doors, are working toward Enhanced Security certification across the Conservation and Contemporary ranges.
This follows significant investment in third party laboratory testing of windows that comply with BS7950 and doorsets to PAS24, for eligibility for the ultimate Secure by Design accreditation.
Everest Commercial, windows and doors supplier to the commercial market, has recently completed its work at the old Stella Maris Hotel in Tilbury, formerly a hostel for merchant seamen.
Everest surveyed the site, and prescribed their uPVC casement window sitting on a bespoke aluminium pressed cill, and provided a product specifically designed to suit the changes within the building structure and to take account of the necessary building regulations, such as fire check walls.
In total, the supplier provided for 40 flats including a number of doors from both its aluminium and uPVC ranges.
Passengers at Oban Ferry Terminal are being treated to views of Scotland's coastline while they wait for their ferry to arrive, thanks to the structural glazing system from Pilkington, the Pilkington Planar.
The new terminal building incorporates more than 300m² of the Planar system. The insulating glazing units incorporate 15mm toughened Pilkington Optifloat as the outer pane and 6mm Optitherm as the inner pane with a 16mm air gap.
Jerry Almond, project manager at the subcontractor who installed the system, said: 'Pilkington Planar met the challenge of minimising the amount of steel used in the glass support structure to maximise transparency. The result is a spectacular structure that gives the terminal a lighter, more natural appearance.'
