Durable aluminium rainwater systems from Marley's Alutrek range are said to be providing a cost-effective solution to a number of properties as part of a housing refurbishment project in Manchester. Designed specifically for cast iron replacement or to give a traditional feel to a new building, the range is also said to be ideal for conservation areas as the ogee gutters offer an aesthetic, decorative profile. The system in Manchester was specified in heritage black, a particular textured black polyester powder coating, which is designed to emulate the appearance of cast iron.

Rainwater systems from the new Life4 range from Marley have been used on a housing development in Crossgates, Scarborough. The 112 x 60mm Flowline white square gutters and 68mm circular downpipes were installed on the five luxury three bedroom bungalows to complement the contemporary red brick. The guttering is designed to combine all the practical and aesthetic characteristics of the Flowline range but with increased colour retention and high gloss levels. Brian Wharton, site manager at Thompson Homes, in charge of the development, said: 'The longevity and durability of the Life4 gutters were a major factor in the choice of system and the high gloss provides an attractive finish that won't fade over the years.' The Life4 range is said to have stable colour retention of up to four times longer than standard PVCu systems.

French manufacturer Wirquin has introduced two shower wastes to the UK market. The Tourbillon 50 and the Tourbillon 50 with dome have a 50mm diameter outlet with a water seal of 50mm. The main body of the waste outlet, the flat grid and dome are made in ABS, the flat grid and dome are chrome plated. In the dome version, the dome is simply pushed down on the white grid and is secured by locking guide protrusions on the underside. By simply withdrawing the flat grid or dome/grid from the body of the outlet, the waste basket is then removed and cleaned in warm water. The basket is the replaced using the guide location rails provided in the trap and the grid simply pushed home into the trap. The height of the waste is just 82mm deep, which is said to make it one of the most compact wastes on the market with a 50mm seal, complying with UK Building Regulations. The outlet is supplied with a compression fitting.
