Lochinvar has launched a new fully condensing gas-fired water heater, the EcoKnight. The company says this new addition effectively gives it the largest and most flexible range of gas-fired condensing water heaters available on the UK commercial market. The EcoKnight comes in five models offering thermal efficiencies of up to 109 per cent and low NOX emissions. Hot water outputs range from 709 to 2,436 litres per hour.

An efficient heating system that harvests and upgrades the energy found naturally in the outdoor air has been launched by Mitsubishi Electric. The Ecodan heat pump boiler gathers over 70 per cent of the heat energy it needs from nearby surrounding air, making it significantly more efficient at providing heating and hot water.

As part of a commitment to tackle the issue of heating efficiency and energy conservation, the University of Warwick has installed condensing boilers from ATAG. The company's ATAG E Series boilers with electronic control devices have been used to replace boilers in students halls throughout the Central Campus. The boilers have an output of 32kW and are wall mounted using a standard, through the wall horizontal flue.

An Oxfordshire private school has had high efficiency ecoMAX commercial boilers installed courtesy of Vaillant. Cranford House School in Wallingford needed to replace their old heating system after the boiler had had started to leak. The ecoMAX boilers were specified and installed by Advanced Maintenance in Reading. David Jones of Advanced Maintenance said later: ' Space in the boiler house was tight. Vaillant's ecoMAX high efficiency wall-hung boilers are extremely compact for their output, in this cae 46kW each. We have installed three and have left the possibility of adding more if the school chooses to extend the building.' The ecoMAX range of commercial, high efficiency condensing boilers is available in three power output options. They are 35kW, 46kW and 65kW and are all SEDBUK Brand 'A' rated. The company says they use fuel more economically; a high performance stainless steel heat exchanger captures otherwise wasted heat.

National pub chain, Slug and Lettuce, has been given a slick and sophisticated new look courtesy of a multi-million pound refurbishement and the introduction of Dimplex Optiflame's electric fires. Leeds-based design specialists Plumtree Mee were appointed by Slug and Lettuce owners, the Laurel Pub Group, to re-design and oversee the management of an updated style for the chain's 50 plus branches. Plumtree Mee, which specialises in the design of commercial environments, was looking for products that introduced extra 'life' to the interior of the pubs. Designer Katie Stammers said: 'Retail environments are not only about function but also about fashion and that can be a challenging brief for us to fulfil. In the Slug and Lettuce we ensure not only that the products look good but also tha they will withstand the rigours of a busy environment and most importantly, be safe. Dimplex fires, for us, tick all these boxes.'
