Over 1,000 sheets of High Pressure Laminate (HPL) were supplied for the interiors of the Emirates Stadium.
This included Formica Compact for the players' changing rooms and general admission toilet facilities. Formica Compact is said to be suited to high impact and high moisture environments. The Spectrum Red Formica Compact echoes Arsenal's distinctive team colour. Many of the 'back of house' reception desks and print journalists and photographers workstations, along with press desks in the seating bowl, were also fabricated using HPL from Formica bonded to an MDF substrate.

When customers arrive at the Marco Restaurant, they will be welcomed by a Rondor circular-sliding automatic entrance from Tormax. Located in the grounds of Chelsea football club, the restaurant is the new venture of celebrity chef, Marco Pierre White. The Rondor consists of two sets of curved glass doors, creating a striking architectural feature. The external doors slide apart, allowing customers into a lobby area where they face a second set of doors leading directly into the restaurant. An integrated air curtain effectively helps maintain the ambient temperature for diners, while the doors are powered by Tormax TEP operators, neatly housed within the circular casing.
Target Living, the interior architects, discussed many options for the entrance way with Tormax but with relatively limited available space the Rondor was specified partly because it creates 50% larger opening space than sliding doors would deliver, and because an airlock can be formed between two sets of doors.
Norwich Waterfront continues to offer better facilities to national touring acts and up-and coming musicians thanks to an upgraded acoustic system installed by Hodgson & Hodgson.
The 'box' layout of the Waterfront, with its low ceiling and hard surfaces, had led to a problem with reverberation of sound around the auditorium. Hodgson & Hodgson fitted a dB Ceiling Absorber panel to the ceiling.
When work began recently on the new Criminal Justice Courts at Caernarfon it fell to specialists in expanded polystyrene formwork Cordek to provide a special ceiling featuring a series of massive barrel arches. Special moulds, manufactured from Filcor EPS, were used to meet the design specification. The semi-circular moulds were surfaced with specially adapted Correx sheeting and a concrete finish.
Taking inspiration from the scenery of Loch Lomond, new golf club Lough Erne in Enniskillen Northern Ireland went for the natural option and chose Cupa Natural Slate for the roofing around the complex.
Cathal Reilly, of Maxwell Pierce Architects, told Building Products: 'I specified Cupa Natural Slate for this development as it is not only hard wearing and durable, it also looks fantastic. It is important that the resort blends in with the surroundings and the choice of roofing material was an essential part of that, so Cupa was a natural choice.'
The millions of people who use Gatwick every year will be kept cool and safe from dazzling sun glare, after 80 motorised roller blinds from Levolux, were installed at the departure gates of Pier 6, a new 11-pier aircraft stand, attached to the North Terminal by a state of the art bridge.
Under the contract with specifier Mike Crossley Consult Ltd, Levolux supplied a series of Internal 780 motorised Roller Blinds, together with control units, to the airport to combat overheating and glare. The landmark Pier 6 is part of a massive investment by BAA to support Gatwick's growth towards accepting 40 million passengers a year.
