Minerit Lightweight Board from Cembrit Blunn has been specified by Orion Trent for its fire resistance and compressive strength at Ludlow Eco Business Park. The development is aiming to set high standards of best practice in design and sustainable construction. To this end, all buildings on the site are being constructed to a BREEAM Environmental Assessment standard. The Minerit LW Building Board is being used within a floor of sandwich construction between birch-faced plywood and the floor surface.

Faced with the problem of rust affected and peeling edges on the roof of a Fitness First sports complex in Bedford, the staff turned to Delvemade. The Manchester-based company is described as an experts in caring for problematic and unfit roofs. The problem was diagnosed as a classic case of 'cut edge corrosion' affecting the horizontal lap joints and cut sheet ends of the 12 years old pvf2 coated steel roof cladding. The building consultants specified Delvemade's Seamsil remedial treatment as the ideal long term solution. Once installed Seamsil is claimed to effectively eliminate any further deterioration of the sheet ends and laps for a guaranteed period of at least 10 years bringing peace of mind to the building owner.

Designed for maximum visual impact, the new Camouflage exhibition at Imperial War Museum London features a unique floor comprising nine different colourways supplied and installed by Ryebrook Resins. The hard wearing resin floor echoes the camouflage theme throughout the area whilst delivery a practical, easy-to-maintain finish that is capable of withstanding high levels of usage. It also features what the manufacturers describe as 'exceptional scratch and impact resistance', ensuring that movements of exhibits will not cause damage to the floor. In addition to the terrazzo and quartz finishes supplied, Ryebrook's bespoke colour matching service was also utilised. Laying the floor required careful planning to give each section sufficient time to cure before doing an adjacent colour, avoiding any bleeding across colours. Finally, a clear matt seal was applied to create a smooth, tough finish.

The first of a number of bio-diverse roofs from Index has been completed on the Centre for Voluntary Action building, near a site where black redstart birds have previously thrived, in an attempt to boost the dwindling population. Indigenous species of wildlife were added within recycled aggregate on the roof to attract wildlife. The index waterproofing system comprises three purpose-specific bituminous membranes which were used on all exposed details, then a water retentive drainage mat was topped with the recycled aggregate

British Gypsum's new bagged plaster plant at East Leake has been shortlisted in the Industrial and Progress Category of the IstructE Structural Awards. The plant, opened in June, features a 35m high ten storey Mill building and an octagonal homogeniser.

Construction Cosmetics, the brick and masonry restoration specialists, has chosen the EcoChem range of brick care products from Geocel, for a project in Dorset. A new home was blighted by efflorescence all over its walls, and EcoChem provided an alternative to hydrochloric and other acid-based solutions. According to Geocel, Construction Cosmetics made the decision to switch to EcoChem because it is cleaner, safer and greener and because it detected an increasing move towards environmentally-friendly products within the market place. Furthermore, it does the job. Stephen Pinegar, of Construction Cosmetics, said: 'We chose EcoChem because not only does it clean the bricks, but it also inhibits the efflorescence recurring.

The new Felixstowe headquarters of the China Shipping Agency features Western Red Cedar Timber louvres from Levolux, to protect office workers from solar heat gain. The series of vertical and horizontal timber fins and supporting columns were chosen for their ability to withstand the elements, a plus considering the building's North Sea-facing position. The louvres also shield the building from heat gain, by preventing sun rays from hitting the glass.
