Stannah Lift Services, based in Glasgow, have installed a bespoke scenic passenger lift into Edinburgh Waverley Station. The Stannah 16 person hydraulic lift provides access from the central level to the new Platforms 1 and 20 below. This bespoke lift was designed by Stannah specifically for its unique location and has been built to Network Rail specifications. Ravenheat has launched its Energycatcher, an environmentally friendly unit which can reduce cutomers' gas bills. While modern boilers are increasingly efficient, one source of waste heat and pollution that has not so far been addressed is the heat which escapes through the boilers' flue. With the boiler running, flue gases can reach up to 60ºC. Energycatcher catches the gases and flow them over a heat exchanger. The 'waste' heat is transferred to the water and reused.
Newark-based installer of impact-absorbing play surfacing, Playtop, has launched a range of three-dimensional shapes called Playtop Spheres. Inspired by a project at the Guggenheim Museum, which used Playtop wet-pour surfacing, the rubber surfaces are said to be ideal for adding a 3D shape to play areas in parks, gardens and urban spaces.
The spheres are available in three sizes (350, 450 and 600mm) and are fixed to the ground using an anchor. Each ball is covered with Playtop rubber granulate from a range of over 20 colours.
