Internal linings specialist British Gypsum has launched a new ceiling board lining that combines high levels of thermal insulation with 30 minutes fire resistance.
Developed in conjunction with a major housebuilder, the board is an extension of the company's Gyproc ThermaLine Super range, developed to satisfy the fire performance requirements for ceiling membranes in 'room-in-the-roof' constructions.
A laminate of 15mm Gyproc FireLine, a special fire-resistant plasterboard and 40mm high performance phenolic foam, the new 55mm board includes an integral vapour control layer prevent condensation in the roof construction.
It is fixed directly to the underside of joists using 90mm Gyproc Drywall screws.
The Work at Height Regulations are driving the use of small powered access machines. This is confirmed by AFI-Uplift which says it has seen a rapid increase in demand from companies wanting to hire this type of equipment. The company has supplied 12 Pop-Up machines and three Skyjack scissors lifts to a company installing fire prevention and alarm systems at the Bankside 2/3 development.
When Carillion and partner HLM Architects were looking for materials for 13 new build primary schools in Barnsley they knew they had to be robust, low maintenance and sustainable. At King's Oak, Kalzip's Falzinc raised seam roofing met all the criteria.
Falzinc uses a patented Pegal process to encase the aluminium core of the raised seam with a pre-weathered zinc layer that has a lower weather erosion rate than zinc and is long living due to the saline resistant substrate.
The weathering treatment gives the zinc surface a mid grey shading - the appearance of approximately three-year old natural zinc.
At King's Oak the sheets were fixed with associated flashings and fascias as well as gutters to prevent run off from cedar boarding above roof levels affecting the zinc.
Because cedar board rain run-off attacks the surface of zinc care was needed throughout construction and secret gutters were built to prevent future damage.

Claimed to technologically advanced the flame-free welders have been developed over several years by the company's research and development team in conjunction with roofing contractors all over Europe.
Now patented, they represent a major step forward for the industry with the potential to root naked flames or boilers in the past.
The range comprises an automatic, self-propelled side lap welder for sealing overlaps as well as a full-width welder for fully-bonding membranes and a lightweight hand-held welder for detail work.
Geometric angles just got sharper in the bathroom, thanks to the precision-cut manufacture of Crosswater's new Logic brassware collection.
Improvements within the ceramics industry has recently seen the edges of square basins become noticeably sharper, making original cubist brassware seem almost curvy in comparison.
Brassware manufacturer Crosswater has embraced the very latest machining technology to ensure its Logic range is as cutting edge as the sanitaryware it complements. Suitable for use with water pressures below 1 bar, the Logic collection provides an ideal option regardless of the installation equipment.
The Logic collection, which is finished in crisp chrome, includes an array of products, including deck-mounted bath fillers, a choice of four basin fillers and seven shower valves to suit all project requirements.
Lightweight roof systems specialist, Decra is taking another step with the launch of a steel tile that reflects the sun. A new coating on the company's Elegance tiles helps to prevent the sun's infra-red rays from being absorbed, reducing CO2 emissions and energy bills during the warmer months, by lessening the need for air conditioning. The non-toxic coating, which inhibits the growth of moss or algae, means that the tiles can also be used for rainwater harvesting.
The Decra Elegance tile is less than one-eighth the weight of traditional clay or concrete tiles and, say the manufacturers, it can be easily cut and bent on-site.
A low surface temperature radiator cover that incorporates a lockable and removable front door has been developed by Coverad. It is designed to be securely locked yet allow supervisory and cleaning staff access to the radiator and its control valves.
Normally made from 1.3mm steel with a tough coated finish, the casing can be sized to fit any hot water radiator.
