SChilled beam comfort cooling systems at the new Sage headquarters in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne are now being served by seven Lennox EcoMax chillers. The chillers were specified for their low refrigerant charge compared to competitive products, energy efficient performance and ease of maintenance, says the company. Strict criteria has been applied to the site and the roofmounted chillers have been fitted with Allaway Acoustic low noise louvres especially for the project. The chillers, serving around 1000 staff at the new offices, are controlled through a Building Management System linked to temperature sensors in the office spaces. Each of the chillers incorporates a number of features for efficient performance, including balancing of compressor operating time and set point adjustment according to external temperature. In addition to the chillers, Lennox Quantum Compact fan coil units have been installed in south-facing offices where high solar heat gains are anticipated.
