Specified for low energy performance whilst providing a comfortable atmosphere for pupils, Hautlieu School in Jersey incorporates TermoDeck, a new heating, cooling and ventilation system designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and overall energy consumption. The new ?13.9 million school is one of the largest schools in the channel islands. With the emphasis in the construction industry on the need to reduce, reuse and recycle, Jersey Public Services created a school that was capable of providing a long-term environmentally friendly solution for the island. TermoDeck works by channelling air through the precast hollowcore units, which act as ?thermal batteries?, which is then distributed into individual rooms via diffusers in the ceiling or floor. In this application the ability to provide a constant source of fresh air enables pupils to remain alert for longer periods, and can increase concentration.
