Going bananas for award winning building - Burlington Slate Ltd
A previous recipient of the Built in Quality Award from the Building Inspectorate, the banana-shaped Innovia Films building features a roof finished in 60 tonnes of Kirkby Blue/Grey natural roofing slate supplied by Burlington.
The stone has also been deployed as step treads and risers on an external feature and twin flight staircase that provides access to the building's main entrance. Adding continuity to the external application of the stone, the material was also specified with a honed finish to create a circular floor feature located at the base of a staircase that forms the focal point of the building's atrium.
Constructed as a traditional and heavily insulated timber structure, the roof finish has been laid using the company's 467mm by 254mm natural slates.
