With both its Domus and Aldus collections manufactured from carefully selected heartwood from northern Scandinavian pine trees, Rationel Windows believe its windows and doors are an environmental choice.
The pine trees grow within the artic circle which means that, as the trees grow slowly in these conditions, the cell structure of the timber is tighter than that of trees grown in warmer climates. This, the company believes, gives the timber a higher resistance to splitting, warping and bowing.
The company also selects water-borne stains and paints which, as well as being more environmentally friendly than solvent-based options, are chosen for durability, ensuring maintenance cycles are kept to a minimum.
Primarily used in housing applications, the Aldus range features aluminium cladding on the external face. The powder coated cladding protects the outside faces, further reducing maintenance.
