In today's cost climate, electric heating beats gas on all counts. This is the view, of Steve McCall of Devi, the electric underfloor heating supplier. He maintains it costs less to install and running costs are lower on an annual lifetime basis.
Using TEHVA, The Electric Heating & Ventilation Association, figures he says electric heating systems cost up to 40% less than wet systems to install because there is no need for gas supplies, pipework, flues, condensate pumps or soakaways. Another reason is that annual safety checks, landlord certificates, servicing and maintenance costs do not apply. TEHVA estimates that electric systems last at least 15 years against 10 for wet.
