Energy efficiency and low maintenance glass technology are offered by the new High Performance Low E4 self cleaning glass from Andersen Windows. The glass combines soft coat low emissivity and argon filled double glazed units with an exterior self clean coating.
A transparent microscopic coating of titanium dioxide - which has been bonded into the exterior glass surface during the manufacturing process - is activated by the sun's ultraviolet light in a process called photocatalytic action. This speeds up the oxidation process, loosening dirt and organic material on the exterior pane of the windows.
The hydrophilic properties of the coating means that water droplets sheet off the surface, washing away particles.
