Covering some 18,500m² of shopping mall floor, Ardex has supplied tiling products for a ?30m refurbishment project at the Lakeside Shopping Centre, Thurrock. In order for shopping hours not to be disrupted, it was necessary to complete the work overnight. This involved preparing and smoothing the existing terrazzo sub-floor using the company?s latex smoothing compound Arditex. Throughout the malls, large format tiles were fixed to the newly smoothed surface using Ardex-Flex S 38 floor tiles bedding mortar. The mortar is designed for good adhesion, pourable consistency, and allows 30min. to adjust tile position to achieve a solid bedding. To fix the feature tiles S 16 grey rapid setting wall and floor tile was employed with E 90 admix. The adhesive will allow tiles to be grouted or accept traffic after 3hr., fitting the specification for an overnight solution. The majority of the remaining tiles were grouted using the company?s C 2 grey cement-based tile grout, in conjunction with E 101 admixture.
