Plain mill finish aluminium demonstrates excellent durability and stability, lasting the life of the building with no maintenance work required. The plan for the Centre is based on detailed analyses of cancer trends, predicting that the incidence of the disease is set to rise by 5% per year.
Initiatives such as the ?Building Schools for the Future (BSF)'programme have generated significant opportunities in the education sector for construction industry suppliers who are able to focus on life cycle costing models rather than simply on initial build costs. This is certainly the case for roofing and cladding specialists Ash & Lacy who have seen dramatic growth in this
particular market. An example is the new sports hall at St. Bede?s School in Cambridge which is topped with an impressive, silver, curved Ashzip
roof, which was rolled on site. The plain aluminium, standing-seam, roofing system ? manufactured and supplied by Ash & Lacy - consists of 1,144 square metres of Ashzip in a bright metallic silver supplied in 35 metre lengths which were formed and curved at the roof-eaves during installation. Ash & Lacy?s containerised mobile roll-forming
units provide this option of manufacture on site depending on sheet lengths required. The standing-seam system at St. Bede?s School is an example of the Ashzip 400 profile specified with full-height halters (245mm) on ?top hats? to achieve an insulation U-value of 0.25W/m2K. It also incorporates a perforated structural deck to meet the acoustic requirements of the school for the sports hall.
Installed at three schools in Edinburgh is the Ashzip standing seam roof system from Ash and Lacy.
By using the Ashzip system, airtightness was achieved. It is designed to reduce the need for end laps with metal lining sheet perimeters sealed using a zip-up machine which minimises the loss of heat and air. An Ashtech cladding system was also used.
A standing seam roof from Ash and Lacy has been applied to a store in the Wirral. The Ashzip roofing system, in plain mill aluminium finish, comprises a membrane and curved roof beams to complement the green glass facade. Sheets of the product can curve up to a 40-55m radius with radi as low as 4.8m mechanically curved on-site. It provides thermal performance which complies with AD2 L/Technical Standard J.
An Ashzip standing seam roofing system from Ash and Lacy has been specified for a school in Derbyshire due to its durability and performance properties.
Some 4000m? of Ashzip 400 were installed on the new-build areas of the school. The system is available in parallel and tapered aluminium, coated steel and copper.
An Ashzip standing seam system has been applied to the roof of a new learning resource centre at Salford College in Manchester.
The company supplied 800m? of Ashzip 400, factory manufactured to maximum sheet lengths of 9.6m to create a low hipped roof. The sheets were finished with a pvdf coating in copper green in order to meet planning requirements.
Integral to the system is the Ashgrid spacer support mechanism, supplied with 730m? of 33/1000 walkable liner.
Components from the Ashfab range by Ash and Lacy have been installed at a business park in Staffordshire, including scintilla, galvanised and linear flashings.
Several curved and powder coated flashings of up to 6m in length were used to decorate the front facade of the courtyards. Specialist stucco aluminium sabre tooth openings and rainwater systems were also supplied.
James Brindley High School in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, has received a new sports hall, complete with an Ashzip standing seam roof from Ash & Lacy.
The plain mill aluminium roof was specified to meet the acoustic and reverberations levels for the leisure facility. To control reverberation and supress ambient noise the 600m? roof features a perforated absorbent lining below the mineral fibre insulation level.
The school received design guidance from Sport England.
Selected for the roof of a healthcare project is the Ashzip standing seam roofing system from Ash and Lacy. The company supplied 2000m? of the product in 0.9mm aluminium for the Darwen Health Centre, with a ARS finish in Grey. A series of curved roofs with a tapered, curved, feature roof in the centre were produced offside at the company's manufacturing facility.
Fully approved by the British Board of Agrement, Ash and Lacy's Ashzip is the first standing seam roofing system incorporating a full height halter to meet the new BBA testing criteria, the company claims. Both the Ashzip 300 and the 400 profile widths are covered under BBA certificate 06/4301. The new thermally efficient halter is available in three heights - 245mm, 295mm, and 345mm - to offer u-values of 0.25, 0.20 and 0.16 W/m? respectively
Forming a wave shape, a standing seam roof by Ash and Lacy has been applied at a ?2.2 million funded four-court sports hall at the Acklam Grange School in Middlesborough. Specified for its durability, the 1480m of Ashzip in plain mill aluminium was supplied in a range of straight and factory pre-curved sheets.
The standing seam is available in parallel and tapered aluminium, coated steel and copper sheets in cover widths of 300mm and 400mm. Sheets will self-curve to a radius of 40 to 55m. To achieve convex and concave curves to tighter radii, sheets can be pre-curved on site or in a factory.
Used as a refurbishment solution for failed flat roofs, Ash and Lacy's Ashjack over-roof conversion system has now been employed in a social housing project in Corby.
With inadequate drainage and limited water run-off leading to a deterioration of the roof structure, the new system was selected to counter these problems.
The product is quick to assemble and potentially provides a permanent refurbishment solution, with an extension of building life alongside reduced maintenance costs and aesthetic value added to the property.
Supported by a network of installers, the system is suitable for use on new build projects where it supplies a lightweight altenative to other products.
New innovations have been introduced to Ash & Lacy's Ashgrid spacer support system to improve performance. Changes include the new Safe-Loc spigot design for the AG40 bar ends along with deeper ribbed brackets and bar top ribs. The spigot design ensures a secure inter-lock and the bar ends do not require fixings, saving time and costs.
