Commissioned by Transport for London, Cross River Partnership and London Buses, the new bus station, underground and rail complex at Vauxhall Cross, London, features a 12m wide, 200m long canopy clad in stainless steel supplied by CGL systems.
The structure dips and rises up by 20? to create a ski-slope style roof to the western elevation of the building. The roof also incorporates photovoltaic cells angled towards the sun to generate electricity for the bus station's lighting systems.
CGL Systems supplied over 5,000m? of Avesta stainless steel panels for the project. Stainless steel was also used to clad the 11 roof support piers which are fixed 18m apart to form five bays and which rise up to merge with the angled roof.
