Designed by FaulknerBrowns architects, the Xscape leisure centre in Braehead near Glasgow features 10000m? of curved and tapered Kalzip 305 clad aluminium alloy on the roof and walls of the main ski area.
In addition, the lower level retail area was changed to Kalzip 500 profiled sheets to meet the performance requirements of flexibility, durability and minimum maintenance.
Due to the ski slope housed within, the building had to be insulated against heat gain. The Kalzip sheets provide a watertight seal which when installed over the cold store construction assists in preserving the ski slope.
Aluminium for the fenestration of Oceana Boulevard, a residential development in Southampton, has been supplied by Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems.
The project contains over 700 Comar 5Pi tilt and turn windows with slim outer framing which provides thermal efficiency. It has two separately extruded profiles which are rolled together with a Pi strip to form the thermal break. All windows were polyester powder coated.
Comar 6 curtain walling spans all 12 storeys of the stairwells throughout the building's facades, incorporating bottom-hung 5Pi windows for use as smoke vents.
The slim 50mm sightlines permit an uninterrupted views over the sea. Comar 7Pi polyamide insulated doors were incorporated into balconies.
Specified in single glazed and powder coated in light grey to match the roof panelling, Comar 6 curtain walling systems high span mullions have created a unified, sleek facade for a BMW car showroom in Newcastle. The company say that the flexibility of Comar 6 makes complex architectural designs simple to realise. In this project Comar 7 is hung directly from Comar 6 curtain walling ensuring the same 50mm sight lines are achieved throughout the fa?ade. At the entrance, the corner mullions can adjust to 135 degrees, thus accommodating the sloped top elevation.
Comprehensive suites of aluminium profiles, components and accessories are available in the Comar range from The Parkside Group. A broad range of doors can be created from Comar 7, which are claimed to be extremely tough and durable. For windows, the company offers Comar 5 ? giving a wide range of low maintenance options.
To comply with the low energy directive, the head office of Raglan Housing Association, based in Bournemouth, has been refurbished using Comar 5P.i. windows. The 5P.i. windows are designed to reduce heat loss through a thermal break, ensuring that buildings get warmer faster and colder slower. In this application vertical pivot windows coupled to a bottom fixed light were installed. They were polyester powder coated in brown RAL colour and encased directly into stone reveals.
Developed as a cost-effective alternative to curtain walling, Comar offers Comar 2. The thermal break system is designed for durability and is internally glazed for security and speed of installation, with an external glazing override where internal obstacles make it necessary. Glazing thickness options range from four to 71mm, glass or panels.
A growing number of sports and leisure projects around the UK now feature Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, the company claims. For glazed aluminium curtain walling, rising to any level, Comar 6 is available. It can be specified as a ?ladder frame? for straight forward sections, or ?stick build? for build-as-yougo situations.
