Fire detection and emergency lighting systems from Cooper Lighting and Security are protecting the recently constructed Earth Sciences building at Durham University.
The main part of the building is protected by a Menvier four loop analogue addressable fire detection system linked to more than 250 smoke detectors, call points and sounders.
In addition, the company also supplied a Vesda early-warning smoke detection system for the building's computer room. The high sensitivity Vesda system is connected to a remote display some 200m away in the university's security lodge.
Over 200 Menvier stand-alone emergency luminaires were installed throughout the building. This including Eurolite flush-mounted luminaires and Safe Edge exit signs, with Atlantic Plus IP65-rated luminaires chosen for exterior applications.
