Pumpable natural hydraulic lime mortar from Easipoint provided the finish required for the restoration of walls surrounding Clithroe Castle in Lancashire's Ribble Valley.
The mortar met the need for a traditional lime-based material and offered the advantage of gun-injection, which enabled the contractors to fill substantial voids in the stonework and joints up to 25mm wide.
The walls, believed to date back to the 15th Century, had become overgrown with ivy, which was removed to reveal significant deterioration of the existing mortar.
The repointing work is part of the first phase of improvements including paving and night-time illumination of the castle.
Used to create deep-filled weatherproof joints during the refurbishment of college buildings in Hyde, Greater Manchester, is the Easipoint gun-injected mortar system. Three colours of mortar were used with the system, ensuring that mortar filled the joints to depths up to 50mm on sections of the terracotta banding in Yorkstone, Red and Natural.
Environmentally-friendly Algotech from Easipoint removes algae and moss. It can be spray or brush applied to masonry or paving. The chemical formula contains a combination of chemicals which prevents the process of photosynthesis, causing algae to die. It forms a chemical shield against light and prevents regrowth until the residue is cleared naturally by rainfall.
