Wolseley, the UK's largest distributor of construction material, and Finnforest, leading supplier of wood-based products, have combined to provide 50 deck and pergola kits and 30 other timber structures to pub company Spirit Group.
Due to the smoking ban, and renewed demands for outdoor smoking shelters, the two companies have developed the deck kits to ensure they are fit for purpose in accordance with current Government legislation for provision for smokers.
The Soundbar System from Finnforest has been specified by Bloor Homes, for all its timber frame housing and flatted developments in the Wilmslow region, thanks to successful sound tests completed at the housing company's Wrexham site. The test results exceeded Part E relating to noise by 12dB for Airbourne and 12dB Impact, within residential compartment floors.
For the Savill Building, Windsor Great Park, the largest timber gridshell structure in the UK, two structural engineered timber elements from Finnforest have been incorporated into the system of interlocking larch laths and oak cladding. They play a key role in the support structure by connecting the gridshell to a steel perimeter tube ring and legs reaching the ground.
Building designs for a four-storey timber frame construction on Corporation Street, Stoke-on-Trent, are being delivered by Lloyds Timber Frames with Finnforest's Finnframe Floor System.
The system combines design software ? for the flooring to meet British and European Standards ? and the Finnjoist timber I-joist constructed with an OSB web held in place by two Kerto LVL flanges. Kerto provides inherent strength to the system with its layers of laminated timber veneers.

The conversion of a former Tropical Bird Park in the Isle of Wight into the Lake House Design studios has been achieved using Finnforest's Thermawood exterior cladding.
The cladding is produced by heat treating Finnish grown European Redwood. It is this alteration in structure that results in a more stable, anti-fungal timber and suitable for exterior applications.
On this project, it was used all over the house to provide a water-resistant skin. The main deck to the west of the house and the Japanese courtyard have also been manufactured out of Thermawood.
Heat treated timber material from Finnforest can be used on either internal or external applications. Thermawood, engineered from Finnish European Redwood, is produced by a process of intensive heat treatment - subjected to temperatures exceeding 200?C. The chemical changes in the timber during heating and drying make it a more stable product that is also environmentally friendly.
