Wind now back in sails

Finnforest Wind now back in sails Kerto S engineered timber from finnforest has been used in the restoration of the Wray Common Windmill in Reigate. It has been employed to build the dummy sails for the windmill, which span sixty feet across and remain locked in the St Andrews cross. Kerto S laminated veneer timber was specified for its strength, lightness and durability. These qualities will drastically reduce the amount of maintenance required on the sails compared to any other possible material, as well as ensuring the sails are resistant to the high wind forces exerted on them.

Product of the Month

Finnforest Product of the MonthDeveloped to both improve acoustic performance and reduce build times, the SoundBar System from Finnforest is Building Products' Product of the Month for November. The acoustic flooring system consists of three key components - the FinnJoist, the I-Joist from Finnforest; the SoundBar, which sits above the normal floor deck acting as a sound deadening material; and a anhydrite Gyvlon screed from Lafarge, which is pump applied to offer the performance characteristics associated with a solid concrete floor. In tests the modular system on average exceeded Part E for airborne sound by 5dB, increasing to 10dB for impact sound. In terms of reducing build times, Finnforest believes that the system has the potential to cut floor installation time by a third. FinnJoists, SoundBar board and screed can all be delivered to site in pre-cut form. The finished SoundBar System provides a smooth finish that can be directly installed with tiles, carpet or wood flooring. As it is solid it also eliminates problems associated with movement or squeaking. The SoundBar System has been tested at a Bellway Homes site in Purfleet where 15 apartments were installed using the system. It facilitated a reduction in material costs including bricks, plywood, battens and plasterboard, as well as a reduction in labour costs.
