Following their criticism of the state of UK housing in the national press, George Wimpey challenged Wayne and Gerardine Hemmingway to design a new housing scheme with the same kind of budget. The Hemmingways accepted and the result is The Staiths South Bank development in Gateshead. Finnforest supplied Hemmingway Design with its Finnjoists to provide a stable basis for the flooring systems. Manufactured from Kerto and oriented strand board, Finnjoists are designed to offer a high strength to weight ratio that produces lighter, longer spans. Timber components for the roof, wall, and floor of a private home in Dublin have been supplied by Finnforest. The house consists of a single skin timber frame that has been constructed off-site by Kingspan Century. FinnJoists have been specifed to enable a deeper cassette, creating a greater cavity and opportunity for more insulation, as well as for their environmental properties. Available in depths of 200 to 400mm, the product is constructed from Kerto and OSB web for a high strength to weight ratio.
