Timber balconies from HLD Timber Engineering have been applied to a redevelopment of a house in Wokingham. The project consists of three levels of softwood timber decking balcony structures, using European Redwood. Support is provided by laminated timber posts eight metres high and the structure is bolted back to the fascia. The deck boards meet BS4978:1996 and strength class C16.
Timber products from HLD Timber Engineering have been applied at the Ropetackle waterfront development in West Sussex.
The company supplied its European Redwood timber products for standard and cantilever 'Juliet' style balconies. Ground decking and a balustrade to other areas have also been supplied and installed by the company. Boards are treated with a copper based preservative, a wax additive to improve water repelance, and then kiln re-dried to atmospheric moisture content.
Erected using volunteers at a Foresty Commission site in County Durham, HLD has supplied six kit bridges as part of a ?200,000 project to create a mountain bike training area and trail in Hamsterley Forest.
The bridges used timber that is FSC certified and was treated using 'more environmentally friendly' chemicals.
The company supplied two bridges measuring 5m long and 1.5m wide, together with another one at 4m by 1.8m, one at 5m by 1.8m and a 6m by 1.8m structure. The largest bridge was curved at 10m long and 1.5m wide.
All of the structures have 1.4m high ranch rail balustrades made from FSC certified European Redwood. As the product was simple to put together, it was possible for volunteers to erect them.
After 40 years of helping conserve wildlife in the East Midlands, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has its first visitor centre?with cladding and decking coming from HLD. Both of these elements are made from natural oak timber. This material was chosen because of its durability compared with untreated softwood products. All of the oak used for the cladding and decking is from sustainable sources to comply with the project?s environmental requirements. As well as the cladding, the company supplied Antislip Plus deck boards recommended for commercial deck applications.
