DDA requirements and the psychological effects of colour were taken into account by ICI Paints when developing colour schemes for a mentally disordered offenders unit in Kent.
The dull unit was transformed into a calming therapeutic atmosphere. Dulux Trade Diamond Matt finish paint was specified for the walls and schemes were devised which avoided colours that could be seen as over stimulating or difficult to live. Calming tones of green and blue were chosen and the product is said to have offered the required durability.
Dulux trade colour consultants were heavily in the project in order that residents will have respect for the surroundings and by helping to develop a more inviting, softer feel.
