A flooring installation service from Medway-based Total Floor Systems is the latest addition to the support package offered by the company to the nationwide iLevel service partner network and its housebuilder customers.
As the performance, reliability and maintenance-free reputation of engineered wood flooring systems has grown across all housebuilding sectors, demand has increased to outsource the installation process, further streamlining build time on site.
Typically, a housebuilder could use Weather Dek2 or Dek Shield protected floor panels from Puhoswood combined with iLevel Trus Joist Tls. Trust Floor Systems says it can deliver the complete support package to the iLevel service partners and its housebuilder customers.
The ability to create cost-effective long span floors that can be quickly installed is said to have seen TJ joists used to create a large industrial mezzanine floor.
A part of the iLevel engineered wood floor system, the joists are more commonly found in new build residential and light commercial developments.
The 18m x 12.2m mezzanine floor has been installed to create additional production space at a Bristol joinery company. The original floor designs called for sawn timber but the architects opted for TJI joists because of their flexibility.
As part of a ?200 million residential regeneration project at Wigan Pier, 17,500 linear metres of iLevel Trus Joist's TJI joists were used.
The products, varying in size, were supplied by the company's service partner CR Taylor. Commenting on the project Mike Onions, technical director for Shire Timber Structures, appointed by the developer to deliver the project, said: "In any apartment building one of the biggest issues is the transmission of sound, which can be expensive to remedy. Engineered timber floors offer the most practical solution."
Other products used include 4,000 linear metres of Parallam PSL, installed around the perimeter of each floor to support its load should a wall panel be removed.
The project is a five/six-storey timber frame residential development at one of the North West's most historic and iconic landmarks. The site, boasting 200 apartments spread over three buildings, will also house a number of leisure facilities including shops, a theatre, a public house, hotel and a public house as part of a new 'urban village'.
