A compact lifting unit which is claimed to offer all the functions of a much larger unit has been launched by KSB, the Loughborough-based international pump maker. Designed for a wide variety of applications it is suitable for use with domestic water supply, sanitation and drainage, as well as in building services such as heating, air conditioning and ventilation. It is believed to be the smallest lifting unit manufactured to EN12050-1 on the market.

Pump manufacturer KSB has supplied equipment to the Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire. Rio manual speed variation pumps, Riotecs with continuously variable differential pressure control and Riotherm service water circulators have been selected along with Etaline single- and twin-models. The pumps have been installed in plant rooms located throughout the hospital to provide heating, hot water and service the chilled water system. The company states that the Rio is a ?maintenance-free? wet rotor pump (glandless) flanged or screw ended with three speed levels. The twin pump version can be used for standby or peak load operation. Riotec is a wet rotor pump (glandless) with flanged end and integrated frequency inverter for continuously variable differential pressure control. A twin-pump version of Riotec is also available. The Riotherm is also described as maintenance free wet rotor pump (glandless and screw ended) with three speed levels. Etaline is a close-coupled, in-line pump with standardised motor.
