Keim Mineral Paints have been used by Helena Housing Association on various estates in St Helens to refurbish existing properties. The major problem was of carbon staining on the exterior of the pebbledash render which is a result ofthe towns history and growth based on coalming and heavy industry.
Since these industries have been declining St. Helens has been developing new industries while also introducing rejuvenation programmes. Keim Mineral Paints say that Heleba Housing Association has completed a 4-year paint programme with Keim Mineral Paints. The programme involved a number of the Association's buildings being refurbished in order to promote well being and boost area pride.
When the University of Glasgow opted to expand and create two buildings for its medical research centre, Keim Mineral Paints was specified to provide the coatings for the outer walls of the new cardiovascular and biomedical research centres.
The company's Concretal Lasur is said to have been used on the new concrete walls of the atrium in order to harmonise the finish of the exposed concrete whilst retaining the natural look and feel of the concrete as a feature of the atrium design.
With the highly sensitive nature of the work undertaken in the centre, it was also important to minimise disruption from general maintenance and Keim's extreme long life performance is said to ensure reduced repainting cycles as well as whole life costing benefits.
Keim Concretal Lasur is a low pigmentation colour stain and is available in a wide range of shades which can be used when an opaque treatment would be out of keeping with the concrete aesthetics. It is able to unify variations in colour and texture of concrete, whilst retaining its look.
The long life nature of the paint, say Keim, is derived from the chemical crystalline bond which the paint forms with the substrate, maintaining breathability, whilst withstanding exposure to severe weather conditions. It is said to be resistant to algae and mould growth, completely lightfast, inherently non-combustible and environmentally friendly, being odourless, solvent and VOC-free, and made using only natural materials.
Keim Mineral Paints has been chosen for a major extension to Mendip Green School in Somerset.
The paints were specified for their environmentally friendly properties. Their microcrystalline structure is said to maintain breathability, allowing any moisture in the substrate to escape and ensures a long-life performance of 15 years.
Albion Riverside, an exclusive new development on the south bank of the Thames between Battersea and Albert Bridges, features Keim Mineral Paints on both its external and internal surfaces. Keim Concretal Lasur was used to harmonise the finished concrete whilst retaining its ?as struck? look and to ease maintenance. The company?s Lotexan water repellent finish was also used to protect the 7.5m V shaped columns (which form a colonnade route through the building) from dirt in communal areas without affecting the appearance of the concrete.
As part of the Glasgow Balbeg Street regeneration programme, Keim Mineral Paints have been specified for their long life performance. The system was assessed as requiring a 15-20 year repaint cycle, compared to five years with conventional masonry paints. This is achieved by the paint forming a chemical bond with the substrate and becoming part of the surface.
Both external and internal applications at the Albion Riverside development on the River Thames have benefited from products from Keim Mineral Paints. The company?s Concretal Lasur has been used on the outside to harmonise with the finished concrete, with Lotexan water repellent finish used on the V shaped columns which form a grand colonnade route through the building.
