Keim Mineral Paints have been used by Helena Housing Association on various estates in St Helens to refurbish existing properties. The major problem was of carbon staining on the exterior of the pebbledash render which is a result ofthe towns history and growth based on coalming and heavy industry.
Since these industries have been declining St. Helens has been developing new industries while also introducing rejuvenation programmes. Keim Mineral Paints say that Heleba Housing Association has completed a 4-year paint programme with Keim Mineral Paints. The programme involved a number of the Association's buildings being refurbished in order to promote well being and boost area pride.
Launched by Keim Mineral Paints is the Ecotec, a solvent free hydrocarbon concentrate with a silicone micro-emulsion base.
The product is a colourless water repellent for either internal or external use on new and existing painted mineral substrates. It is solvent free and requires only dilution with water to make it ready for application. With a matt finish, it does not change colour or appearance of the substrate, making it suitable for the protection of fair-faced concrete which is used in its natural finish as a design feature.
Because the product coats the pores of the substrate rather than filling the holes, it has good surface penetration and is water vapour permeable whilst retaining its water repellency.
A benefit of the system is that it can be used in confined spaces without the need for breathing apparatus or extraction equipment because it is solvent free and environmentally friendly. It gives good alkaline stability and can be used as a dust suppressant for concrete.
