When the London Borough of Harrow Council was approached by an occupational therapist with an access problem, it looked to Manse Masterdor to provide a solution. Living in a flat above his shop in Stanmore, Harrow, the occupant has become unable to climb the stairs without discomfort, and required a stair lift. However, this posed a problem as the bottom of the stairs was very close to the door and a standard door would not have been able to clear the stair lift and open fully. The solution involved splitting the door vertically and to hinge both sides, creating a standard door leaf of approximately 600mm and a fully secured slave leaf of 300mm. Due to the way Masterdors are produced it was possible to make this kind of split in the door without compromising the integrity and security of the door. Each door is created from scratch, and made to measure for every application.
