The London Borough of Harrow has specified ore-routed ready to receive electronic door entry systems from Masterdor to meet the requirements of the DDA and Disability Equality Duty.
The council is taking the opportunity, as part of its Decent Homes programme, to 'future proof' the front doors in its housing stock.
A spokesman for the council told Building Products: 'Vulnerable residents such as the elderly and disabled can benefit from the use of an electronic door entry system to allow quick and easy access to their home. We therefore teamed up with Manse Masterdor to prepare all our new Masterdors in the factory for the possible installation of the system regardless of when it might be needed by a resident.
Friends will go to great lengths for each other but pensioner Marie Wall has taken it a step further by having her front door replaced and widened with a Masterdor door-set just to accommodate visits from her wheelchair-bound friend. This achieved an 800mm clear opening, so Marie's friend can now push himself in.
