Tormax were recently faced with the challenge of protecting the architectural heritage of a building whilst improving visitor access.
The Institution of Civil Engineers in Westminster specified Tormax to install their Power Drive 1401 underfloor door operator to automate the plate-glass swing doors at their main headquarters.
Concealed within the slab below the doors, the powerful synchronous motor delivers smooth and silent door automation, without any visible operator interfering with the aesthetics of the building.
Compatible with a standard 240v electrical supply, the Power Drive 1401 is surprisingly quick to install, with all parts sealed in a single unit.
The system has a long operating lifespan as well as a full range of functions, which can be accessed through a keypad, allowing the user to adjust door opening speeds, and hold-open time according to traffic flow.
The automation of doors was part of a project to improve disabled access.
Tormax was contracted to design and install two automatic revolving doors and further enhance the impressive frontage of St. Helen’s, the head office of Aviva in the City of London.
The 3.4m diameter doors are driven by Tormax 5251 operators featuring cutting edge technology to deliver smooth functionality even with near continuous use. Paul Maxwell, Engineering Manager for Norwich Union Central Services, part of the Aviva group said: “Tormax offered a cost-effective solution, backed up by a reputation for reliability.”
