Assisting in the building of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, 2000m of Fermacell board was specified for the gallery walls due to its load bearing properties and dimensional and chemical stability.
The system comprised a single layer of 12.5mm thick square-edged board mounted on Protektor steel studding fixed to the blockwork wall. The product is a hard wearing fibre-reinforced gypsum board made with recycled materials.
Along with strength and acoustic insulation properties, it provides fire, impact and moisture resistance.
Artwork of 30kg is supported from a single screw, going up to 50kg with a wall plug or toggle type fixing. The board is chemically inert and was specified to provide long term stability in the gallery.
