Bristol-based environmental consultancy Greener Energy Futures (GEF) has joined forces with Jeff Way Group, a construction and training firm, delivering market-leading insight to help reduce carbon emissions across the business. GEF supported the firm by identifying an opportunity for funding from the West of England Combined Authority via the European Regional Development Fund, targeted at reducing carbon emissions of SMEs. The project will reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 2.7 tonnes and save £2,700 in energy costs annually.

In early 2021, GEF alerted directors to the carbon reduction grant as a way of creating funds for energy-saving improvements. Jeff Way Group is currently working with customers to help them enhance their building performance and so it made perfect sense to showcase the company headquarters in South Bristol as a low-carbon leader. GEF surveyed the site to identify measures that would reduce emissions of the building and sourced contractors to deliver the reductions.

Through the successful application, GEF helped them to identify a 14% carbon and energy cost reduction through improved insulation, energy-efficient LED lighting and a solar array to generate electricity. Furthermore, capital costs will be 50% subsidised by the grant.

Simon Pyne, Director at Greener Energy Futures, said: “Small and medium-sized businesses are finding that their customers and suppliers are beginning to expect carbon reductions from their partners; the good news is that funding and expertise are often available to help with this process. Greener Energy Futures have been delighted to help a progressive business like Jeff Way to demonstrate their climate credentials and save costs through our insights and advice.”

Chris Way, Director at Jeff Way Group, commented:  “Jeff Way Group has already invested in electric vehicles and charging and recognise that it makes great sense to reduce our own carbon footprint. Greener Energy Futures were essential in finding and securing the funding for us to further reduce our emissions. We know our customers want and need low-carbon buildings and now, as well as supporting them on their journey through improving their buildings, we can showcase the benefits of our own head office.”
