Crittall shortlisted for Commercial Project of the Year at G26 Awards
Crittall Windows has been shortlisted for Commercial Project of the Year at the G26 Awards for its work at Adelaide House, a landmark Grade II listed office building in the City of London.
Completed in 1924, Adelaide House was one of London’s earliest steel-framed office buildings and was originally fitted with steel windows manufactured by Crittall. A century later, the company returned to replace them as part of a major refurbishment designed to bring the building up to modern commercial standards while preserving its distinctive Art Deco character.

Crittall’s W20 EVO steel window system was selected to replicate the original sightlines, proportions and glazing patterns while delivering improved thermal efficiency, weather resistance and occupant comfort. Its slim steel profiles accommodate 20mm insulated double glazing, allowing the building’s architectural integrity to be maintained without compromising contemporary performance requirements.
The wider refurbishment has transformed Adelaide House into a high-quality modern workplace, with improvements to accessibility and environmental performance contributing to its achievement of BREEAM Excellent certification.
Russell Ager, managing director of Crittall Windows, said: “Adelaide House is a particularly meaningful project for Crittall because we manufactured the original windows almost 100 years before returning to replace them. It demonstrates the value of combining an understanding of a building’s history with the engineering expertise needed to meet modern performance standards.
“Being shortlisted for Commercial Project of the Year is welcome recognition of the work involved in achieving that balance. The project shows how specialist steel windows can help preserve the architectural character of an important building while securing its future as a contemporary commercial space.”
With more than 175 years of steel window manufacturing experience, Crittall continues to work on projects where architectural design, building performance and long-term durability must be considered together.
