Works start to pave the way for new housing development in north Bristol

Works are due to start in the coming weeks to prepare for a new housing development for Lyde Green in north Bristol, which will provide much-needed new homes for the city.

The Bristol division of leading housebuilder Barratt Homes is creating a new community, named Lyde View, of 86 two, three and four-bedroom homes, including 29 affordable homes, representing over 30% of the overall scheme.

Barratt Homes is making an investment of £291,771 in community benefits through section 106 contributions, including £212,000 towards off-site outdoor sports facilities, £64,227 towards their future maintenance, and £8,000 towards Willowherb Road pedestrian bridge.

The housebuilder will also create allotments for use by the residents of Lyde View, a neighbourhood set within 2.3 acres of open space, as well as commission public art for the community, details of which are yet to be revealed. The development will also benefit from ecological measures such as bat and bird boxes to support local wildlife, with its new show home garden accredited by wildlife charity RSPB.

In the weeks ahead, infrastructure works to put in place roads and services are due to commence at Lyde View, with the foundations of the new homes set to go in from June onwards.

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Homes’ Bristol division, said: “We are seeing lots of interest from potential buyers across the region for homes on the edge of towns and cities where there are plenty of opportunities for spending time outdoors. People have reflected on their property wish lists during the past year, and in many cases, are shifting their priorities.

“Lyde View is an exciting new neighbourhood that will offer residents so many benefits right on their doorstep, from open space to allotments, and from a popular cycle route to a new health club, there is something for everyone.”

A new David Lloyd Health Club has opened at Lyde Green, whilst Emerson’s Green retail park is nearby. The development is also within walking distance of Ofsted-rated Outstanding Mangotsfield Primary School, a local Sainsbury’s, a MetroBus stop and the Bristol and Bath cycle path.

Tony Palmer, construction director at Barratt Homes’ Bristol division, said: “We are pleased to be able to press ahead with works on site at Lyde View, paving the way for the creation of a new neighbourhood for the city. This development will provide much-needed new homes including affordable housing, community facilities and ecological measures, all of which help to ensure it is a balanced, sustainable development.”

Barratt Developments, parent company of Barratt Homes, recently announced a new £1m initiative as part of its ongoing partnership with RSPB to help nature thrive. Launching this spring, Nature on Your Doorstep will deliver the resources, connections and inspiration that will empower people to create their own havens for wildlife where they live. The project will focus on the development of digital resources and an online community that brings people together to share their stories, tips and advice on the best ways to look after nature near them.

Together with its sister company David Wilson Homes, Barratt Homes donates £3,000 every month to local causes in the South West as part of the company’s commitment to supporting the communities where they are building new homes. Recently, the Bristol division of Barratt Homes donated over £2,000 worth of office furniture to Gathering Voices, a Bristol arts charity which aims to empower and build communities. In addition, Barratt Bristol recently handed over nearly £27,000 to the UK’s leading dementia research charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK, its charity of the year.

Barratt Homes is also delivering new homes at nearby Ladden Garden Village, in North Yate, and at Blackberry Park in Coalpit Health.
