F.H.Brundle supplies rapid-turnaround POSIglaze glass balustrade system for DIY SOS Big Build
F.H.Brundle, the UK’s leading stockist of steel and wrought iron components, has donated more than £3,500 worth of material to a special BBC DIY SOS: The Big Build project for BBC Children in Need, transforming the facilities of children’s cancer charity The Joshua Tree in Cheshire.
The materials, supplied by F.H.Brundle’s Newton-le-Willows branch, played a vital role in the refurbishment and expansion of the charity’s support centre. The project was completed in just 11 days with the help of over 400 tradespeople, all working to create a space that will make a lasting difference for children and families affected by childhood cancer.

The call came in from South Shore Productions in mid-September, and with the BBC’s cameras and Nick Knowles’ team already on site, and filming underway, the challenge was to plan and supply a bespoke, fully compliant glass balustrade system in record time.
“We were approached by DIY SOS to get involved with this project and because it’s such a fantastic charity that does such incredible work we were excited to help,” said Liz Fielden, CAD Manager at F.H.Brundle. “The balustrade we supplied was our POSIglaze frameless glass balustrade system, which we could deliver within the short time frame using standard off-the-shelf panels. That meant we were able to get all the parts to site within three days.

“For F.H.Brundle to be involved in such a meaningful project means the world to everyone here. We’re all really proud to have supplied even a small part of it – and to see it completed was fantastic.”
Once the architectural drawings arrived, F.H.Brundle’s technical and design teams worked intensively to ensure the installation met stringent building regulations. “Despite the incredibly tight window, and the added complexity of a weekend in between, we were delighted to help,” added Michael Brundle, Managing Director. “This was a perfect example of the responsive, solution-focused service we’re known for, from the initial call to delivery.
“As a company, we strongly believe in giving back to our communities and this project will have a lasting impact on so many young lives.”

Founded in 2006, The Joshua Tree supports families affected by childhood cancer across the North West and North Wales. “This project really is transformational for us as a charity,” said Debbie Wilkinson, Corporate Partnership Manager at The Joshua Tree. “To have companies like F.H.Brundle supply materials and expertise means such a lot. Without their support, builds like this just wouldn’t be possible.”
Founded in 2006, The Joshua Tree provides bespoke support to children and their families affected by childhood cancers. Over recent years, the charity has grown significantly, and due to increasing demand from across the country has now outgrown its Cheshire facility.
The project was screened on BBC on Thursday, November 13.
