Air force base ceiling boards are flying high - British Gypsum |
British Gypsum’s Gyptone acoustic ceiling boards have provided a major feature in a chapel renovation being submitted for a USAF international design award.
The USAF 100th Air Refuelling Wing Chapel, a focal point of the RAF Mildenhall air base in Suffolk, has undergone a full interior renovation to include the new eye-catching Gyptone ceiling, which not only provides a much improved interior acoustic environment, but gives a modern, clean and bright appearance to welcome users.
The 1200 X 2400mm Gyptone QUATTRO 41 boards feature a geometric pattern of full depth perforations which, combined with a special acoustic tissue backing, provide a very high level of sound absorption, satisfying Building Regulations Part E, Class C absorber standards. Contractor Graham Construction installed and jointed the Gyptone boards to give a monolithic ceiling lining that can be decorated in the future without affecting acoustic performance to maintain the pristine appearance of the ceiling.
The ARW Chapel renovation is being submitted in the ‘Interior Design‘ section of the award scheme.

Big boards to end jointing - British Gypsum |
Glasroc Rigdur XXL boards from British Gypsum have been designed for the offsite manufacturing sector, where their full panel size format is claimed to offer significant benefits in terms of lining quality, panel stability, installation time and process and cost efficiency.
The high density boards are made from gypsum reinforced with recylced paper fibre using a process that is said to give the board a high quality surface finish.
The surface does not require any treatment before decoration, removing an operation from the offsite manufacturing process.

Gypsum closes in on green goals - British Gypsum |
Closure of the landfill site at its Kirkby Thore works is said to have taken British Gypsum a significant step closer to its sustainability goals. The landfill had been in continuous use until June this year accommodating largely production waste from the two plasterboard lines on the site.
British Gypsum managing director, Mike Chaldecott said: 'The closure of the landfill site is a major achievement in our drive to reduce waste through the company.
'Not only does this save us money, but it helps us to preserve our virgin gypsum reserves and reduces the environmental impact of our business. Eliminating landfill from our business is a key element of our corporate sustainability. It is part of a raft of initiatives.'

Off site is put on show.. - British Gypsum |
Hall 5 Stand M120
After an absence of more than 10 years, British Gypsum is returning to Interbuild with a stand dedicated to its off-site solutions.
A growing element of the new build market, offsite manufacture is claimed to offer a solution to the quality issue sometimes associated with site-build methods, but also introduces a new set of challenges for manufacturers whose panel systems not only have to compete cost-wise with 'traditionally built' panels, but must be extra robust to cope with the stresses and strains of factory to site transportation.

Along with the extreme - British Gypsum |
Hall 5, Stand M120
Interbuild will be the launch-pad for an extreme impact resistant partition from British Gypsum for applications where onerous BS5234 Severe Duty Rating does not provide sufficient performance assurance.
Gypwall Extreme is claimed to have been designed to perform beyond the most demanding impact and abrasion resistance criteria. It has been developed in conjunction with specifiers in schools and hospitals, where kicking and glancing impact from trolleys cause damage.
